HELP! stuck in stupid route kanal!!!

Hello, I have just bought my copy of HL2, and after just a few hours playing im stuck. I have jumped down in the water with all the boxes and walked to a red conntainer at the other end. i climbed ontop of it and jumped down, inside there is a man and an alien watching tv. they dont do anything and there is no way out!!!! Please help, im desperate!!!!!!!!!
