Help! Stuck waiting for elevator near end of chapter 3

I can't seem to surive long enough to make it onto the elevator. Zombines with grenades always wear me down too much. I must of tried 30 times now. I've even lowered the difficulty to easy. This is getting frustrating.

Any tips? How did you do it? How far do I have to go back in my save games before a difficulty changes actually has an effect.

I'm pretty frustrated. This exact sort of gameplay is why I never finished Doom 3. Other than that, this is a phenominal expansion so far.

There are plenty of explosive barrels, gas cans and flares, use them. If the zombie horde is too overwhelming, retreat and look for health.
And always try and take out the Zombines first.

Perhaps try hording all those explosive and health objects near the elevator before you turn the elevator power on.

I'm certain that when you change the difficult-level, it kicks in right after when you escape back to the game. Not exactly sure though.

I'm pretty frustrated. This exact sort of gameplay is why I never finished Doom 3. Other than that, this is a phenominal expansion so far.

I was also stuck in that part of the game for a good amount of time (right after you throw the switch).

One, make sure you use the flare that's on the ground. You need to grab it and then release it with the gravity gun in order to light it up. Put it just outside the door of that room you are in; this will spare you some battery life.

Second, try to throw bricks at the zombies using your gravity gun. It is important to have the gravity gun handy as you will need to throw away the grenades the zombines wave as soon as they enter the room. After you kill a bunch of zombies, try to run with alyx to the next room to your left. This should buy you some time for your flashlight to recharge.

At this point I think you are better off using your other guns.

Or just do what he said, hoard as many health kits as possible before you throw the switch.

I went back that hallway to the right of the elevator and just funneled the zombies down the hallway. Alyx and I took care of them there.

I'll admit I died 3 or 4 times there with the difficulty on Medium. It's a tough spot.

I was standing close to elevator, and I only shoot the Zombines and the fast zombies, and let Alyx shoot the rest. Works every time.

Wierd, I died the most on easy and least on hard (none), I guess cuz I was playing the game for the first time on easy.

Yeah, the game was much easier my second time through now that I knew what I was up against and already discovered the tricks to each area.

Never thought to hoard the stuff before the attack! Good tip. I had already tried funneling the zombies down the right but there was always a huge mess of the guys in front of elevator when it finally arrived. I'll leave a barrel right in front of the elevator and hoard everything to the right.
