I just installed Foobar2000 audio player. I have two first impressions.

Fast and light as hell.

Lacking things I need.

I had been using winamp forever, but it's pretty heavy. If i maximize it, it takes a few seconds just to draw the page. It just uses too much memory and is too slow.

So I installed Foobar to give it a try. Is this the best player out there?

Can anyone suggest some plug-ins to make it more feature rich though, and something to make it look better?

Some features I'd like is being able to make it smaller, like some kind of minibar, in addition to a full screen version that has all the graphical candy like album art. I need an EQ built into the full screen one.

I need to be able to rate the songs.

if you don't know all that, maybe you can suggest something. I also don't know what everything is called. UI? I guess these are additional modules that you can install to add more features.

What about the GUI? what is that called?

thanks

No sea, YOU are the devil!

And then sea was a zombie.

True..... true.

I personally use WMP11 because I'm way too lazy to configure WinAmp or Foobar2000 to my liking.

I just like it because it's there and I like the way the library is set up... and searching is blindingly fast. And it doesn't care that my music is on another computer on my network (*cough* itunes *cough*)

I've read the FAQ. I've even had 5 pages of hydrogen audio open, and everyone just keeps saying, "columns, panels " I feel like I'm on a wild duck hunt. People are linking screenshots of their setup and they've used rapidshare.

I just want to know what foobar plugin stuff you have downloaded

SOMETHING LIKE THEEEES

is there anything else like that one? Not sure if that's what I want. It's the ONLY thing I've seen that is getting close to what I need.

edit - a lot of people are calling it a config (what I was calling a GUI)

I love foobar2000,it's the best player
foo_input_ plugins let you play additional types of music (ape,nsf,mid,mod,s3m...)
foo_dsp turn on DSP (crossfade,equalizer,5.1 to stereo downmix...)

other plugins that you must have:
Standard User Interface - it's a standard UI of fb2k.
Columns UI - alternative style,I like it much more
foo_uie_lyrics_panel - a Lyrics Panel for Columns UI.Adds a panel where you can configure KARAOKE!!!
It's awesome,I made lyrics tags for all my favorite songs.
foo_unpack - Archive Reader.You don't have to unpack your MIDI/MOD/S3Ms!!!
foo_input_dts - the one and only. The best player for DTS music.
try sorting script - it's awesome!my config is:

Sort by
%ALBUM ARTIST% - $if2(%ALBUM ARTIST%,%ARTIST%) - %DATE% - %ALBUM% - %DISCNUMBER% - %TRACKNUMBER% - %TITLE%

The "Album List" is good too.

The GUI in fb2k is pretty configurable in the Preferences. That's why it's called a config.
I can post my config (foobar2000.cfg - I use fonts with Japanese and Cyrillic support so these might not working),screens (800x600),even components pack or full pack (fb2k doesn't need an installation,it's completely portable). And yes,I hate Rapidshare.Badongo and DepositFiles are more effective.

Pity the dsp_crossfader was considered as unstable in the new version.
And fb2k is very, very bad at playing MIDI.The MIDI plugin is very slow.

Of course,it's a hunt for plugins. But the main fb2k page has links for plugin catalogs, all the necessary plugins can be found there.
