I know this isn't ethical, but i've been put on the spot a bit by a co-worker. He wants to borrow my HL2 CD's to try it. I told him he has to register and that it could get ME banned from using steam, but he's persistant. But i really don't want to if this is going to cause me problems. I do not and never will be playing it online, (or does it even work as MP?) but i WILL be using steam to update it when the new add-on comes out.

What i need from you is to tell me whether or not he can do this w/o screwing up my account and WHY so that i can explain to him why it won't work. He says he has a steam account already, but i need to know if there is a reason he can't use that with my HL2 discs.

I know it's not right to do this in the first place, but he keeps telling me he just wants to try it and is persistant like flies on ****. And being a co-worker who i really don't know well it's hard to just tell him no.It's a touchy situation So i've been put on the spot and need to know reasons why it will not work or will screw my account up so i can stop him from asking for the CD's. Thanks.

It wouldn't work. The CD Key is now registered to your steam account, so he would be unable to register it against his. It would just say something like "This CD Key is already in use". The only way you could let him "try" it would be to give him your account name and password. I would advise against this though, as he could change the email and password and lock you out of the account, and there would be no realistic way to reclaim them.

Basically, to answer the question, just tell him that it won't work because its already registered. And to stop being a cheap git and fork out the cash. Failing that, twat him over the head with a chair.

If he still persists. Tell him to give your 10 bucks. Then, follow these steps: Link

I like beerdudes idea better actually. >:-)

*Edit - My smiley got haxoreddd 8(

Couldn't you just tell him to google "half life 2" and "demo"??
I mean thats why they have demos, so people can "try before they buy"
I mean if he's really a daff then you could download the demo and burn that onto a cd for him.

'Failing that, twat him over the head with a chair.'

Undoubtedly that is a classic and deserves to be my new sig

Oh and on topic now I suggest doing exactly what Link says because that is the obvious and best soloution to your 'problem'.

Agree with Link. Specially the twatting.

If he is that good a friend, why hasn't he just gone to your place for a go? Explain about Steam if you have to, and just say no. Get some backbone.

Why explain when he can beat the living crap out of him with an extremely large and painful metal chair :D
