Help with half-life.

I bought half-life in anticipation of half-life 2, but it wouldn't install, so I recently (about a week ago) downloaded the latest version off of Steam. Now, whenever I get to the end of the tram ride and the security guard is supposed to open the door, but he's not there! I tried using noclip to exit the tram, but it must break the scripting sequence or something because there is no way to progress.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this should be in another forum, for me though it has as much to do with half-life 2 as it does with the original.

Hmm, strange!

This is probably the last resort, but the only thing I can think of is deleting the half life.gcf file from the SteamApps folder.

I have started over 5 times, all with the same result.

And what is the half-life.gcf file. It sounds like something I should not delete.

I had a similar problem, only the Barney just stood there instead of actually not being there. I suggest you reinstall Steam to somewhere where it wil have a smaller pathname e.g. c:/steam. Worked for me, because mine was buried under hundreds of folders in My Documents.

I think you can delete the file, steam will probably just download it again. Some problems in cs:source have been resolved with this.

I have a simalar problem to yours ,

whenever I get on an elevator I always get stuck when the elevaor stops for some strange reason,

I usualy have to just jump off before it comes to a stop..

Actually, yeah I think he just stands there. So will I have to re-download half-life when I reinstall steam (I do have it hidden in a bazillion folders on the desktop), because I actually went to a friends house to donwload it. (I only have 56k :( )

deleting the file will just make Steam download it again from the content servers. Affectively, you're reinstalling it.

Barney the guard, moved to City 17 Man. I hear the new guards name at Black Mesa is Mogey though :)

I've got the exact same problem! I haven't been able to figure out a way around it other than the jumping trick you mentioned. It's very strange.

I also had a similar problem to the original poster's. I started up the game once and noticed that as the tram moved through Black Mesa, every NPC would collapse and die as the tram moved past. It was very strange. When I pulled up to the final stop, the barney waiting there did the same, of course. I restarted the game and it worked fine. I kind of wish I could have duplicated it as it was actually kind of cool...

see kiddies, this is why Uncie dougy is buying the game and not using steam to get it.

:naughty:

These aren't Steam problems. These are game problems. In the original post, he bought the game retail and it wouldn't install.

lmao my first time he opened the door right, and i get all excited cus its a long ass tram ride. so i run out the door but theres an invisible wall and i cant get past! and barney just walks away...and im like...crap.

lol but i just restarted and it was fine! man i love the bugs in this game theyre great

Try doing:
map c1a1 in colsole
or changelevel c1a1

i'm not sure if this is the right name for the second level, but i'm sure someone will correct me if it isnt.

I think that is like the first level after the experiment.

I am pretty sure the level after the trainride is c0a1.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice.

I moved the folder as suggested by KagePrototype to a less obfuscated location (c:\games\steam\) and now it works fine. That certainly was bizarre and frustrating, but once again thanks for helping me out of this mess.

I have one more question, however... is there some way to run half-life in offline mode? Whenever I try, it says, "Half-Life is not ready to be run in offline mode."
