Help!

Hello I'm a new poster here and I just bought Half Life 2 today. I have a computer with all the right requirements. I have tried to use the Steam updater at least 5 times tonight and it will either restart to 0% or will just shut off after 30 or so percent. Please help if you're familiar with my issue. THank you

Have you tried reinstalling STEAM?
Drastic; Reinstall Windows

I also had this problem worked and tried everything, reinstall of windows fixed it.

You may need to wait a considerable amount of time before Steam gets you all caught up with patches and whatnot. I take it there's no error message?
