okay so i am just testing maps and i do have the configurations correct but when i go to run it it says "vbsp.exe has expirenced an error and must close" so it doesnt compile it and i cant play it. can someone please help me, and here is the log file in trying to run it

so i posted this earlier in the week and the guy said to run buildcubemaps

how do i do THAT?

and i will problably have more questions later
 
i dont know if thats the solution for your problem but to build your cubemaps you have to be IN the game with your map loaded. After that just type buildcubemaps in consol.

I think this is the problem, but to be honest I'm not sure what it means. Look thru your displacement surfaces and see if anything looks like it could cause this error.
 
That happens on every compile I've seen with displacements. I think it's just informative.

VBSP is crashing...
 
cool, but while i have made this thead i might as well ask

how would i go about making a 3d skybox of mountains?
 
forget that last question it was too.......broad

now how would i edit terrain that is a wall? like so instead of going upwards and downwards, it goes side to side
 
Change the Axis in the Paint Geometry window.
 
and about the bots, will the engine automatically create paths for the bots or do i have to create them

Well, IIRC, there are things you can do to make the bots smarter on a level, but for the most part it should be automatic. Type bot_add in-game, and it will spend a minute or so and generate navigation and stuff. I think that's all there is to it, but I'm no expert. :)
 
i tryed that and it said i could because there were no paths or something but whatever

now i have more questions......

how would i go and fill this with water?

Just place a square water brush (Like you would any other, nodraw on the sides, he water texture on top) and let it stick out underground. And yes, that's how simple it really is.
 
i did that and it worked fine except for that i can see the water when i am in it but when i am out of it i cant see it at all (and yes i do have the nodraw on the sides except for the top)

and this doent effect anything but for the sake of time how can i make this go faster? (too many triangle things) (and i cut out about 99% of the triangle command things, so there is A LOT more)

well, first off, you have a leak. fix that. remember, displacements do not block Vis; in other words, you need to have a solid world brush behind your displacement map to seal off leaks. or you can load the pointfile (do a search) and find it.

that might fix your water visibility, I dunno.
 
Your compile only takes 60 seconds... When it starts taking six hours, you can worry, but 60 seconds is nothing :p

When you get in game, go to your dev console by hitting the "~" key. You may have to turn this on by going into options and choosing this by putting a checkmark in the box.

Hit the ~ key and the console box will pop up. Simply type, "buildcubemaps" without the quotes.

You will see your cubemaps taking pictures. Wait a few seconds till it is done and your command prompt is back in the console.

Type "restart" -not sure if you HAVE to do this
then type "map mapname" subsituting mapname for the name of your map.

It will restart the map with your built cube maps.

If you have a scandinavian keyboard or else impaired, select CSS in your Steam Games Menu and go in to properties. Select Launch Options and type in "-console". It has the same effect though you press escape when ingame and it's in the main menu instead.
