Here is how Im getting Half Life 2 early.

A friend of mine at EB is quitting and therefore selling me half life 2 a day early. (I already own silver so I'm essentially paying 50 dollars to attempt and play it a day early Woo Hoo!) Anyway I'm very curious as Doug has already said if "retail locations sell it early we will activate it early".. My feelings are it probably isnt going to work but If Im playing half life 2 come monday I just wanted to throw that in everyone's face now. HA!
 
You might want to tell your friend that he could have a potential lawsuit on his hands if he does that.
Yes, the store would be held accountable, but I don't think they'd let your friend off the hook.
 
Its the same anyway, as it needs to be activated by steam ;)
 
Where exactly did doug say about activating early?
 
Let them sue the minimum wage eb employee.

Let them sue. I can afford a lawyer for him. Besides Vavle would never sue EB for one copy... Anyway like I said I have a fighting chance of playing on monday. No-one knows if it will work or not. (The box would have to have a disclaimer on it btw if they intend to lock the retail copy, otherwise thats a very real potential lawsuit.)

You must very enthusiastic for paying 50 dollars to buy game you allready own because you can't wait for one day and probably it isnt going to even work.
 
For the last time: You can not activate HL2 until 08.00 GMT the 16th November. No matter where you buy it.

actually i read a Doug Lombardi quote saying something about activation.. now whether that means all copies regardless how of how they are purchased, is something to ponder.

Its fact that you cant play HL2 singleplayer without activating the game...

Erm, throw what in our faces.. here's something for you:

You're wasting 50 quid cuz you can't wait 1 day for a game, HA.
 
i cant believe valve would sell a game that needs to be activated on the net to play. what about ppl without net access? sounds fishy to me. im def leaning in the direction that the single player is playable without net activation.

ha! i got the official game guide here and just read the install instructions. no mention of any of this net activation bullsh*t.

It has been confirmed.

Tweaks read the official requirements on the steampowered site.
 
Hl2 will need activation before any of its content can be unlocked. Retail or Steam. Its pretty much been confirmed, thats why so many people without the internet are complaining.

Which is good. I dont think Valve would be daft enough to let people activate it early. Remember you do need to register your HL2 CD key with steam...

Oh well, tell us if it works anyway.
 
oh and a bit more on topic: i also cant believe rellik restam is paying $50 for a game he already owns, to play it 1 day early. ha ha owned by himself.

Correct, you can't play play the game unless its activated. However, there hasn't been any official word at what time activation will begin.

well the official system requirements dont state internet is required.

someone must post a link to an official valve statement that this is the case, or i will never believe this rubbish.

who came up with this fairytale? heh

M8, don't waste cash pointlessly.. you can't run it without activation.

It will be activated in 4 days, 12 hours, 35 minutes and 21 seconds (from when i posted this)
 
well that is what that says..... agreed.

and yet the prima official game guide makes no mention of this? is this not strange?
 
actually im a little stunned that valve would do something like this. hmm.
 
hmm just thought of something if he gets the game early i spose he might be able to start playing CS:S as it has been released.. not sure what do you guys think?

no no, i believe.... i did as soon as i saw the "valve only posts" ... i find it weird still tho, but like Rossel says good way to prevent early leakage.
 
ok well i didnt quite mean it like that what i meant is if a member of the public had preordered the game and got it early

He's right, but Half-Life 2 is also considered a multiplayer game. (And no they DO distingiush between CS: Source and HL2 multiplayer)

And NO that doesn't mean there's multiplayer, so before you begin to cheer, you should realize that the material isn't up to code.

And considered the time for announcing it will be simoultaneous i would say the books were even in production at the time it was decided.
 
Would be nice if it does work, im hoping i'll receive mine on monday from Gameplay. Only because they have a habit of getting games to you a day early.
 
i got no idea afrogoat, hell i didnt even know about the activation until well... er ... now.
 
pay 50 bucks so you think you can play one day before its release, even after the developer says on their website that you will not be able to play the game until the 16th... did you get dropped on your head as a baby ?
 
i recon that they do this (activation) so that you have to have a steam account, and then they will "update" and "update" slowly and surely until steam owns all our pc's like microsoft and gabe becomes the fat new bill gates!

DEV-HL2.iso is on some torrent sites and its like 4.8 gigs looks like some other people may be getting it early.

Unless it's just the backup ISO.
