OK.
Took my PC apart today to install my new HSF.
All that went well and is working fine.

Trouble is, my onboard sound is dead.
I just tried uninstalling/reinstalling them twice, that didnt fix anything. the volume is turned up on my speakers, on my headphones and on my computer. The onboard sound still detects the speakers whenever i plug them in. The sound is enabled in the BIOS. In the sound proporties, everything is set to use AC97...

Any ideas on what it could be/how to fix?

I might have to get a standalone sound card if this can't be fixed :(

Cheers.

EDIT: Would the connectors for the case audio have anything to do with this? if i put them back in the wrong places?
EDIT2: the case audio connectors aren't connected to the mobo, i remember that i couldnt figure out which went where again >_< Reckon that could be a reason why?

well same thing kinda happened to me, but i went out and got a cheap sb live 24 bit and its alot nicer then my old ac97'. So worst comes to worst just go pick one of those up

Thanks for quick reply. But i don't really want to have to spend any more money on computers now for a while. Need money for Xmas and a car and what not...

I had a problem like this. Spent two weeks without sound, installing drivers, messing with options, the whole shebang... eventually it occured to me that my speakers might not be plugged in :/

Haha! My speakers ARE plugged in though. Into the same port they've always been plugged into. Doesn't work through my headset either :(

oh well dont know what to tell you then, maybe whore yourself out to a fat chick for like 30 bucks?

Did you visit windows update and check if there is a driver update avaliable?

Also did you check the device manager for driver errors?

Nope, no errors in Device Manager...
Just checking windows update now...
Nope no new updates there...

It's killing me having my computer silent >_< Thanks for the help!

Anyone got any more ideas? I always seem to have problems with my sound. :(

Just a random though mate. This may seem odd, but have you still got that overclock ? Just an idea, but you never know, seeing as the sound is onboard, and being controlled by part of the motherboard, which is possibly affected by the increase in fsb. Write down the bios settings, return to default and see if it works then. Just a stab in the dark

Tried putting everything back to stock speeds. Still no sound.
I also uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers whilst at stock speeds.

-_-
Thanks for the help!

Ok, i've got ahold of some sound card. I have a driver CD with loads of drivers for this sound card and other sound cards, VGA devices and USB devices. It came with the card when we brought it.
I installed the card, booted up and windows detected the new sound card. I insert the CD and windows finds the driver for the card which is "Cmi8738-4ch". Starts to install it and then at the last file "cmijack.dat" it kills my computer. The mouse, keyboard and network dies but the computer doesn't freeze because Xfire is trying to reconnect in the background.
The sound card is made by C-media (http://www.cmedia.com.tw/product/CMI8738.htm) and i have the 4 channel sound card. I downloaded the driver from their site but i have no idea what to do with it. Theres no .exe. (I've attached what i downloaded from the site)
I have disabled the on-board sound and unistalled the sound drivers that came with the mobo.

Does anyone have any idea on how i can get this installed and working?
Thanks.
