Here's a new one I've not seen before...

I've had my fair share of problems with HL2 (all the typical crashing and bugs - most of which I've sorted as they've arisen). And, despite playing the game all the way through just the once, I've recently encountered a new crash:

I load HL2 and I just get a typical windows error appear telling me "hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience..."

I'm sorry too.

Can anyone even point me in the right direction to get this one fixed? I read the error report, but it means nothing to me.

Error signature: App Ver 0.0.0.0 Mod Name: unknown ModVer 0.0.0.0 Offset 00000000

sounds like a reinstall required. delete in directory and then start again

I did reinstall last night, butto no avail - unless by uninstall you mean everything?

I deleted the local game content but that is all...I reinstalled HL2, but not Steam.

And it's raining outside. Poop.

You need steam to play Halflife 2, it runs through it. Re install steam, run steam, choose HL2 from the play games list. Also try validating your files after you've installed and dont work. There may be corrupted files on your disc which a validation will cure.

I'm now having this same error message too...any fixes yet? Reinstalls don't seem to help...
