Just thought I'd post this, for anyone asking about powerhungry 9700/9800 and PSU's...

My PSU burned out some 1.5 weeks ago on my 2400+/9700 Pro, it was an 360W Sirtec. In lack of better things, I used a PII233/Riva128 for internet buisness and a little oldstyle gaming. But I got tired of... The refresh was highly insuffiecent for my monitor and it was a real problem. The Riva 128 couldnt keep up. I have an old 300W box laying around (some odd german make), so I thought what the hell, it will run or it will crash/shutdown... Installed it, stressed it a bit with 3Dmark2k3.

Score: 3150

My score with the 360W (NOTHING of the software/hardware has changed in between these boxes) was nearly 5000...

BUY QUALITY BOXES PEOPLE!!!! ONE CANT STRESS THAT ENOUGH!!!

Edit: Oh wait... Only FSAA was set to application. So it was with 16xAF. I thought it looked prettier. Odd that it would be such big difference though, like only half fps in GT1. So never mind, mods can delete this. BUT I STILL STAND FOR WHAT I SAID!

Shit, I'm getting like a 23 dollar one....It's 450W but still...where can i find good psus?

ANTEC!!!!!! Best psu you can get are made by antec. im getting an Antec 430W ture psu low noise. its $80 on newegg

My 3dmark2003 said i have a score of 5,647. Is that good?

Oh ok lol. Because on one of the tests I got a 10 fps. But all the others between 30-200 fps, so I was worried about that one test.

wtf??? get an antec buddy....like i said they are the best psu's you can get.

EDIT- Fuc k 3dmark....its a peice of shit...

Enermax make really good quality PSU's.. But they cost more then Antec for example, so I agree.. Antec seems to be the best choice if you combine quality and value.

I'm really happy with my Enermax 460W though :)

Ive got an Antec 400Watt and it hasnt failed me yet. I fully agree with Ridic on this subject, Antec is the best you can get. Their quality in both cases and PSU's is unmatched.

god knows we dont agree on most other topics :cheese:

So you're saying : more watt/better quality psu = more performance?

Not really......It just means that a low quality PSU can hurt performance......after a certain point the psu wont make any differance.

let me tell you, people tout antec like it's their savior, and i have no doubt they are good PSUs, but they are expensive

if you want to go cheap for a good quality PSU, go over to newegg and look up the Allied 400w

i bought one over there for 30 bucks, it's running nice and stable on all rails, and good ampage too, everything you could want in a PSU, and it's not just me that's satisfied with it, you can go read all the customer reviews on the product over at newegg, and the vast majority are VERY happy with it

well let me say IMO its pathetic if someone cant get $200 a month...i see everyone having to get OK video cards cause they dont have any money. I dont get it. GET A JOB PPLS!!! the Antec 430W are only $80 and they are low noise. Definitly worth it in my opinion

yeah, but it's damn stupid to spend the extra money when you can get a very good quality 400w for 30 bucks
