Here's what I think will happen.

I think that after the initial talking or whatever everyone will do after Eli's death (Maybe even another G-Man scene?) there will be another Combine attack on the base.
Then perhaps information is received somehow (I'm counting on VAlVe to think of an excuse) which are co-ordinates to the Borealis - I think there must be a teleporter at the Borealis - & that will be VALVe's alibi for not putting in a ridiculously long chopper ride.
Then so on & so forth for the rest of the game.

They already have that information. Mossman sent it to them. And if there was a teleporter there they could use, they would have already known and not bothered preparing the chopper.

The Borealis is a ruse; there is in fact no useful tech their, and the Citadel's destruction and subsequent attack on White Forest is just a means of testing the resistance.

Not necessarily, I mean just because Mossman is there doesn't mean that they know everything, besides the Combine use teleporters for day-to-day use so maybe there is one there.

It's just a mild theory that I thought of to be an excuse for VALVe to skip the chopper ride to the north pole.

The combine don't teleport around earth daily... VALVe would really have to have a messed up excuse for random appearance of knowledge. If there was one there they would have to find out. And some one would probably be there to recieve them...

Yeah that's what I meant by there being another Combine attack on White Forest, they discover the coordinates from a captured soldier or something.

But this was just a passing thought, I don't strongly believe that this will happen.
