Heros of Might and Magic 5 beta

Um... I think you hit the wrong number. The new one is 5, not 4. 4 has been around for a while.

I hope this 3D aspect is pulled off nicely, there's still something about the 2D that seems to fit so perfectly with HoMM4 and HoMM3... Maybe I'm just in love with those games so much that I prefer 2D. It sure made map editing a hell of a lot more easier and fun and better looking than any 3D map editor could do.

OMFG yay \o/

<3 Heroes 1-3. Hated heroes 4.

Friggin Gamespy subscribers get it three days earlier :/

Holy crap there was a fourth one :|
Yeah don't even bother with it. They changed too much.

thankfully they're reverting back to most heroes 3 stuff now.

The beta is now available for Gamespy subscribers. The rest will get it on thursday.

Is this the fantasy game running on Source or am i confused with another franchise?

lol... Yes I think you are. And the game you are thinking of was cancelled AFAIK.

I thought that was Twighlight war that was cancelled, not Dark Messiah

The 'AFAIK' saves my butt, I really had no clue what the name of it was :p

A lot of fans who have played the beta are quite worried how the complete game will end up, since there are lots of issues with it. Bugs, crashes, unbalanced factions etc.
Since the game is set for a late march release, fans are worried the game will end up incomplete and "rushed" just like Heroes 4 did.

There's a petition going on at http://www.saveheroes.org. A lot of HoMM fans want to give the developer more time to work on the game.

There are already signs that the petition is successful, mainly this gamespot article: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/heroesofmightandmagicv/news.html?sid=6143245

HOWEVER, there still hasn't been any official word from Ubisoft or the game developer Nival Interactive.

Calling all Heroes of Might & Magic fans! Sign the petition! don't let the HoMM franchise die!

WAIT UP. Dark Messiah was cancelled? If it was, I'm gonna bust a cap in somebody's ass, and it sure as hell won't be mine.

It wasn't.

I really have to say LOL to that petition.

Many of the people who have played the beta judge the game from like a few minutes of gameplay. Sure it's different but so what it's not too hard to learn (even a friggin monkey learns to play this in like 20min).

I agree that there are bugs. But here comes the news flash! It's a BETA! ya really. Betas usually are buggy.

I don't understand the people saying that the game can't be ready due march 30. Has any of these morons actually seen the whole source code of the project or all the maps, sounds, art you name it?

And many people seem to not understand that it's a beta. It doesn't reflect the actually game they have right now (or thats what I think). They may even have fixed most of the bugs of the open beta by the time it was released (usually theres theres a different team doing the betas, demos etc while the others continue on the full game). Of course when I say that theres going to be people saying "well why haven't they fixed the bugs in the open beta then!?". Simple, it usually takes too much time and resources to fully maintain a different versions of the game. It's just faster to fix the bugs in the full game than to start coding a patch to the beta.

And let's not forget about patches. No game has ever been bug free when released and HoMM V won't be any different, patches will come and fix things.

No, there's certainly validity to being concerned when the beta is horribly bugridden and the game is scheduled for release in two months.

I was in the Matrix Online beta... half a year before the game came out is when I got it, and the beta was horribly buggy. So was the game six months later.

edit: lame, the HOMM5 beta is closed :(

[UPDATE] Turn-based strategy game quietly delayed as fan uproar over open beta test coalesces into online petition.

Angry gamers have been banding together to form online petitions for years, typically because they want to see a favorite franchise continued, or a new game localized and released in their own territory. That line of thinking is being flipped on its head this week, as a group of dedicated Heroes of Might and Magic gamers are petitioning to keep the latest game in the series from being released--for now, at least.

Publisher Ubisoft began its open beta period for Heroes of Might and Magic V earlier this week, and it didn't take long for a group of disappointed testers to coordinate efforts and launch a Web site to get the game delayed from its planned March release date.

"All of the undersigned wish to see Heroes of Might and Magic [V] as the title that reinvents the series, the title that brings glory back to the Heroes of Might and Magic name," the petition reads. "All wish to see more releases in this new world that Ubisoft has created for Might and Magic. However, we also feel that, should you release the game on its currently scheduled release date, all of our dreams will be shattered. Pushing back the release date even one month will provide many benefits, most of which will in turn equate to increased long-term profits for Ubisoft, and increased longevity for the Heroes series."

Little did the petitioners know that the project had already been delayed. An Ubisoft representative told GameSpot today that the company had pushed Heroes of Might and Magic V out of the March release window before the beta test even went live. However, the only public indication of this was the game's quiet absence from the company's list of releases planned for the current quarter, which ends March 31. A revised release date for the game is expected next week.

[UPDATE] The Ubisoft representative has since contacted GameSpot, emphasizing that the game's delay was not known about before the launch of the beta testing period.

Think this shows that Ubisoft and Nival know work needs to be done and are going to do it. Hope they do
