I seriously doubt the the Long Jump will come back...it's already been said that there won't be a return to Xen and the Long Jump was specifically designed for use in Xen (at least according to the scientist that give it to you in HL). As for other upgrades, while nightvision or thermal would be nice, I don't see it happening. After all, Gordon will probably be wearing the same HEV from HL in HL2 (it is, after all, the only thing the G-Man let Gordon keep at the end of HL).

The HEV has slightly changed. The artwork of Gordon in the HEV indicates that their is no chest armor or control panel, but just a woven-fabric that covers his chest area. As for HEV gizmos, I'm quite stumped, maybe some sort of electrical discharge module that knocks out the cameras or any nearby electrical equipment

ok...I will admit the woven fabric is new. Probably just a detail they wanted to put into hl1 but never got around to.

I think that the material covering his abdomen is thin armour / kevlar rather than fabric, the texture of it looks different to that around his neck and shoulders.
In theory, Gordon should still have the long-jump mod if he lands in City-17 straight after going through the G-Man's portal, but I don't think it will be back either.

Most people don't realise that kevlar is a an engineered fabric. Let alone understand how it works. They always show gorden with his helmet off, he does have a helmet it just always looked gay. You see them in Xen. Gordon couldn't see his HUD or hear the automated voice if he wasn't wearing a helmet.
I think that the new suit will have AI that gives you hints. Maybe ...maybe not, kind of like how Halo had the AI in the suit.
I would like to see a thermal or infrared scan. talk about cool gameplay mechanics. When your underground and in the dark infrared vision doesn't work. There is also the goggles that amplifiy ambient light that would also not work. So you have to use heat vision underground. It's not a stealth thing it's a science thing and I would LOVE to see that in HL2.
That rifle that he uses in the bugbait video will most likely be nightvision. If it's not night vision its a digital zoom scope. Either way it's hella cool.
A weapon I would also like to see is a liquid nitrogen gun or something. FREEZE em and break em.

I'd say that Gordon's got a new suit. The last one had lots more orange, and it did have a large control panel in the front. It was like an orange stormtrooper. This new one is like a suit of armour. That fabric looks like chainmail to me.

im guessin the new armor is sorta like robocop's. you know how robocop had the rubber parts between the armor so that he could still bend his arms/legs/etc? if it was completely metal it would be a lot harder to move around.

There was a discussion on this quite a while back. We ended up deciding that Gordon's HEV used electrically reactive armour plating (Hence the fact that your energy goes down each time you get hit.). I'd say the joint fabric is either kevlar, or some kind of reactive nano-weave.

Although unless I am much mistaken I compared the thinner fabric (which appears to be akin to chainmail) around the shoulders and neck, with kevlar, which are clearly two different materials.
I like the idea about heat vision underground, especially if they have included large underground sections like the ones in Opposing Force.

I don't think his suit has a "zoom" feature. I believe it's all up to the weapon but then again the barricads video was sort of odd. I want the suit to have a crazy recharge feature or at least make clanky sounds when your shot. It's a metal suit and if you get shot it should spark on to the ground. That would be savage.

I believe Valve stated that the zoom feature was part of the suit, and would auto zoom into important plot items or something, probably can be bound to a button too.. however it looks to be pretty weak. (you see him using it in the e3_lab video, when he zooms into Alyx's face)
regardless a sniper rifle wouldnt be a sniper rifle without the scope now would it?
