Hi everyone!

I haven't posted here in a while but I was listening to 'Explosions in the Sky' and it reminded me of a thread when Vegeta discussed it so thought I'd come back and say hi.

First of all, wow this isn't Halflife2.net any more. I suppose it makes sense, seems even Valve are looking to drop the HL franchise now so the change only makes sense really, hopefully this place will live on for many years more under the new name.

As I haven't been here in a while, I finished Uni although didn't graduate and now work full time in e-commerce back in North England. Trying to start my own business on the side too but it's real hard to find the energy when you work all day.

How are you guys?

Hi I'm Danny! I'm the new kid on the block!

So are you a socialist or a corporatist or... what have you changed into now? You're like an amorphous blob of ideals!

I did what?

But hey it's good to know I'm what's holding this community together.

Doesn't finishing uni mean that you graduated, technically?

Anyway, not that you or anybody else here cares, but I had a brief stint as an algebra tutor and am now working to finish a degree in computer science. Programming is something I don't mind, although my nebulous career goals are perhaps not at all related to that : D

I did come back too and noticed that it's the same bunch of people posting, which is nice. Some of the threads lack a bit of good ol' in-depth discussion, but I'm having trouble recalling if the lounge ever was the place for that. To be fair, I haven't read threads beyond the front page here, so I'm not sure if I should be making that claim. Either way, we should take hl2.net back, dude! It's a little strange that I remember most (all) people here and what I associated them with. It's been about 8 years (!) since I first registered here—a lifetime. And the odd thing is I remember the way I felt when I made threads and posted in topics. It's just a little trippy to realize that we're all here to build a sense of community, you know? Even if it's through posting while drunk, or leaving a bit more room to instead talk about higher-level concepts in art, science, literature... you name it.

Edit: also, what the ****? I see that the management team decided to make the lounge visible to non-registered users, and a rating system for posts was implemented. Both things are probably attributable to updating the forum software. And what's up with the smileys?

Especially this one.

:p

My god. Kill it with FIRE!

And welcome back.

Hahah, what the hell? I don't know, I mean these smileys look more appropriate for some consumer-level forum. But we're geeks at HL2.net! We demand better smileys. Or not.

I see that there's a social media button! I don't know if this place can generate enough karma to be on the front page of some social media website, but this is good! It means we're "linked" to the rest of the internets.

How in the hell did the site changes bring back so many Hetairians? Were the changes a god damn joint operation?

lollers, are you implying i'm a hetairian? it isn't the case. though i do remember being butthurt that i wasn't one and then they closed the public forum or whatever it was waaaaay back in the day.

how would you imagine a forum is made? if I wanted to make a forum based on another forum's community, and if that community were to be a kind of creme-of-the-crop, top-content-producing place where the people are aware of their places in this universe and are inspired to be awesome and would like to perpetuate this sense of awesomeness with even more awesomeness, and they are motivated by like goals -- or at the very least seem to be decent people whose opinions and antics and sense of humor are worth preserving, or simply some people knew each other and they thought, "let's make a forum where only people who we think are alright can post" -- if I wanted to make this kind of forum, and if I switched places back to myself and evaluated the content of my posts, I would have good reason to not add myself to that kind of forum, simply because my contributions aren't of sufficient substance; I would have to try harder to qualify for that kind of thing, in which case I wouldn't try at all for the sake of fitting in with a group of what seem to be strangers on the internet... rather I would try to add something substantial to the discussion, if I could (but lol here i am trying to justify why i, in some past moment in time, wasn't invited to a group of people) and let things go from there, expecting nothing but to be heard and noticed, and to converse with a different group of people. In essence, what business of mine is it to fit in with those who I can only speculate are looking for something more substantial than a character like me? I don't really know about hetairia, but i do know that hl2.net is decent in terms of membership and we can have quasi-thoughtful discussions, and the fact that Raziaar posts here and quotes my posts makes it enough for me to want to keep posting, and so I realize that it's all good, you know? /rant

Coincidence. As far as I'm aware, most of the people who orchestrated the change have nothing to do with Hetairia.

My assumptions that you were hetairian were solely based on you not being around for a long time, and suddenly appearing when all the others did.

Welcome back though, brother.

I have a feeling he's trying to say something but I don't even know anymore.

Nope. Valve are hardly dropping the HL franchise, the name was changed to stop us having to make "Halflife3.net" in a few years, and to make the site more open to fans of every Valve game as opposed to just focusing on the one series.

Anyway, welcome back. For some reason I recognize your display picture...not sure why.

Welcome back to the fold! I never left, but then again I never contributed anything of worth to this forum either. Just kinda ... here.

Yeah this place has changed.. Facebook stuff and tweets? da****?

I retweeted this comment to everyone. Because I like it. +1 for the thumbs up. Comment like subscribe.

I don't like this stuff, gonna make a Kickstarter to buy the old forum layout back.
