SEOUL, South Korea – North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has life-threatening pancreatic cancer, a news report said Monday, days after new images of him looking gaunt spurred speculation that his health might be worsening following a reported stroke last year.

The 67-year-old Kim was diagnosed with the cancer around the time he was felled by a stroke last summer, Seoul's YTN television reported, citing unidentified intelligence officials in South Korea and China.

The report cited the officials saying the disease is "threatening" Kim's life. Pancreatic cancer is usually found in its final stage, and considering Kim's age, he is expected to live no more than five years, the report said.

When he dies, somebody else will take power, hopefully without bloodshed. But things aren't likely to change in North Korea unless the next dictator is a little more willing to reform.

The difference between you and those threads about Kim Jong pinching a loaf is that the authors and participants of those threads care (for the most part) about the international community's safety from an unbelievably totalitarian regime. And unfortunately it's only when the news headlines flash "N.K. FIRES NUCLEAR WARHEAD AT SEOUL" do people finally start caring about the threat that looms beyond the press of a button.

Anyway, this is good news, mainly because both sides know that our only chance for reunification is either free democracy comes to the north or the south is enslaved by communism. Hopwefully NK will collapse, and we can go blitzkreig all the way to the Chinese border.
 
He has a successor, but yes, Pancreatic cancer is extremely deadly and he'll probably be dead soon, not that we'll know within any sort of reasonable time frame. His passing will likely change nothing in terms of foreign relations.
 
I know its unlikely but it'd be so awesome if he flies abroad to get medical treatment, with interpol or something waiting to snag him.

I think there was a journalist who was able to access the country, and apparently he saw computers still running Windows 3.1 :bounce:

How they would even be able to hack S Korea and the States computers (as is claimed by the media) is beyond me
