I don't know a lot about Hardware so I'm looking for some help on this string of ideas. If I get into the ridiculously expensive and awesome private college I'm applying to transfer to... I'm going to have an insane bill. Since I'm already paying the billions (by selling my bling bling), I'd rather be comfortable while doing so.
My current computer has some base components that are 4+ years old, and parts of it are dying. I suspect motherboard or processor problems, but I have no idea. I've been pumping money into it for upgrades and trying to save it for about 2 years because I simply didn't have the money to buy a whole new box. But now I'm sick of that, it's on its way out, and I just want a whole new system.
At any rate, I was thinking of also picking up a laptop while I'm out spending thousands of other people's dollars. Here's where the decision comes in. I've always been an NVidia and AMD fanboy, so that's what I'm going for on the desktop. I'm sticking with XP Pro because Vista just doesn't have anything that appeals to me.
But for the laptop, I'm thinking of going... Macintosh.
What I've heard that's helped convince me is all from those tv commercials. No, I'm kidding. The reason I'm considering the mac is because I won't be using it for much more than "professional" type work. Like I still plan to use the PC as my main system, since it's a desktop. I'll use that for games, music, movies, etc.
What I'm thinking with the mac is that I'll use it mostly for taking notes, doing classwork, and maybe a bit more but even Photoshop would really be the extent of that. I've heard they run better, crash less.
Things I don't give a shit about:
- Making your own DVDs.
- iTunes or any of those iPhoto-whatever-the-hell-things.
- Games, as I said already.
- Running "Windows" on said Mac.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
