Im new to the forums and new to my video card, i just bought it retail off newegg. its a radeon 9800 pro 128mb i upgraded from a radeon 9600 xt 128 mb which gave me only 30-40 fps on source, medium settings...

If I play the game on the recommended settings the game plays fine, with no rpobelsm this is my computer:

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Ram: 512mb
Video Card: Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb havent oc'ed it...
Latest catalyst drivers.

The game recommends me to play in 1024x740 with everything in medium settings except for shadow, which sets in high... I tried changint he settings to 800x600 to appreciate the effects in high. BUT, all i see is image corruption, everything becomes checkered and i see pink everywhere. There's also something about the reflective surfaces that turn pink when running with everything else in medium and the reflection set to "all". I am sure Im able to run css with everything set in high with 800x600 with my new card, but, its just not happening, what can be wrong?

This is what it looks like

Odd, I use to run CSS with a XP2600 and a 9800 256mb, and I had recommended settings with everything high, reflect world 1024x768. The picture you show, do you get that on all maps? Because that means that the materials for the reflect maps are missing, you should reinstall css and the issue _should_ be resolved. Also try installing the omega drivers for you radeon, they helped mine out alot.

Yeah, get the updated drivers for your video card. And if that doesn't work try re-installing. Also, you might try setting the Water Detail to "Reflect World" or "Simple Reflections" to see if that does anything.

I've seen that before, but for some reason I thought it was the server. It may have been me, but I must have updated after that if so. But yeah, there is reflection corruption somewhere, so just turn off reflections and it will look ok until you get it fixed.

hmm so i should just reinstall half life 2 and counter strike source right? sometimes, if I set everything on high, i get black checkered boards everywhere.. its quite weird... the weird thing is that it wouldnt happen with my radeon 9600 xt...

it also happens when i set textures on high and reflections on high, i tested it yesterday, sometimes on medium reflection it will also happen, its quite weird... I downloaded teh latest catalst drivers, 5.4's installed them... havent played around with them, will let you know what happened... Could it be that i ave very few ram? 512 mb?

should I uninstall all mymaps and everyting and reinstall again? it will only take me about 45 minutes :p

 not braggin' abot my connection speed, im just wondering if I should :$

Pink reflections happen to me after I alt+tab to windows and go back to CS:S

usually its fixed for me when i restart my game. its some weird thing with the graphics card (overheating maybe?)

I dunno bit it happens only to me when I start the game up and pick a server, play for awhile and then change a graphic setting.

hi guys, well i deleted all the content relevant to halfl ife 2, sourceengine and counter strike source... dledi t again, then validated it, and the cool thing is that its reocmmending the settings that its supposed to recommend, it used to recommend the same settings with the differnce of one reslution higher, now after reinstalling its recommending the ones it should for my sapphire radeon 9800 pro 128mb r350 chip (wanted 360 but u cant hvae both things sometimes)... when joining a server i get some pink stuff and THIS... ... its a brand new card, and i've herad people get this error with 9600xt and 9800 pro/xt as well... they make it seem like thisi s a very common error, it only happens when setting the stuff on high, but i gues source even though its out, is still very beta? some people have had video probelms since the last update.... the one after april fools

heh that picture is hilarious
get new ATI drivers is the solution

i have the latest cats 5.4, which are the best ones? the most stable?

I'd say go back to the default ati ones or try the omega ones
i use 6.14 and have never had any system issues with my Radeon 9700
I've heard good things about 66.72 drivers
i think the catalyst drivers were made with the X series of gfx cards in mind so they wouldn't be suited for the 9 series

66.72 ddriver? i know about the omegas ones... but... what versions are you talking about? i am confused

Also do check if the videocard does not run too hot. Artifacts like that can occur if the card gets too hot. It is unlikely but it is nevertheless a possibility.

yo

it weird, cause im not sure if its a overheating problem, the card is very very new, only 2 das, its a sapphire radeon 9800 pro, running at stock its not verheating, i ran atitool for about 2-3 minutes with no artifacs, then i just decided to give up on it on checking; cause i didnt see any... it only seems to happen when its running on high, and on low i just get pink reflections, im starting t othin that source doesnt like my new videcard, im gonna try wit anther heavy duty game lke doom3, if that happens, then im gonna be PISSED OFF! :sniper: but... thats not til monday :afro:

well apparently it had something to do with fastwrite being on, i turned it off and the game is now pretty cool, i still havent maxed out the graphics casue i just got excited when it ran smoothly and just started playing it and forgot to test it :p hahahah; thats just weird though, fast write on? the graphics are all choppy....

that happened with my 9600 xt once
all i did is restart the computer and it
was fine

I have the same problem with my Connect 3D 9800 PRO
When I swap between cs:s and windows acouple of times I got these problems for example pink floor at de_dust some boxes turns black. I tested to re-install Steam, HL2 and cs:s, I tested every driver I found.
But nothing works, I have to restart cs:s when it haappen I simply have to live with it. :frown: When I used the old 9200 I never had these problems

I had similar issues with my 6800gt. I know it's a different brand gfx card, but typing mat_dxlevel 81 in to the console solved this problem for me.
Try it, you can always go back to directX 9 by entering mat_dxlevel 90 in your console.
