yes well if you're gonna play HL2 in 1600x1200 or higher then a 256 mb gfx card would be a definite advantage, tho you can still play very high resolution with just a 128 mb card.

ah thks scribblehead so u think its worth spendin alittle more for the 256mb card...i mean it might be alot of money now but a few months down the line id have myself a very powerful video card :thumbs:

the extra 256 will probably certainly help you out with games coming out later this year and next year(i.e Doom3, Far Cry etc.)....atleast if you'll be playing all of them at max detail, with the said 1600x1200 or higher.

You'd be perfect fine with a 128 mb card----but i'm going with the 128 personally cuz the 256 is way too expensive for me.

as long as you keep away from nvidia's FX line i think you'll be fine with whatever you choose

yea i know the price sux but in the long run it'll be a good decision... i mean when games come what demand a better card then u gotto upgrade again ;(

Well atleast Doom3 is'nt a problem for the 128 ver. it was tested with newest build of the game(i think it was Anandtech or tomshardware that had the benchmark/build)---and the gfx card ran just fine in 1024x768 with full detail, so like i said its ONLY "important" to get the 256 mb card if you run all these games at max detail, with very high resolutions.

its worth thinking about since, if you chose the 128, you can probably lay aside a 100$-150$ more or less for other upgrades, such as ram...you can never have too much ram

imo, you shouldn't upgrade until you need to...don't upgrade for later...whatever you buy will be cheaper later...when you actually need it.

i was thinking about getting a new video card...things weren't looking like i thought they should...but then my gf needed a new monitor...so of course i used that as an excuse to buy myself a new one and give her my old one.

i ended up getting a 19" viewsonic (p95f) for about $220 (US) and it's great. I never realized how good everything could look on the hardware i already had. (p4 2.4c, 2x 512MB corsair, gf4 4200)

i don't think enough people think of getting a new monitor...they just keep getting better and better vid cards but keep seeing it on the same ol crap monitor.

it's like having a 800 horsepower engine but a rusted ass old body and dirty windows. obviously you wanna go fast, but it's nice to look sweet doing it
