Because I can relate; this is why I've decided to join (with some persuasion from Greatgat). Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. So, hi. :cheese:

Well, in my experience it's true to some extent. Girls I know who are into gaming generally prefer RPGs, adventure games (especially Final Fantasy - which admittedly, everyone has played, so a less 'hardcore' gamer is likely to know it well over other things) and admonish me for being a fan of games which, they claim, are essentially repetetive - shooting people over and over again. "It's just shooting people," is a popular remark. Lots also play WoW. :OHullu said:I don't understand the stereotype that girls like different games than guys.

:Oher cries of "Watch me tear the wings off this Harpy. **** YES! AAAAAGH!" is rather hot.
i've yet to meet any girl who actively plays the games i play - halflife saga, battlefield 2, deus ex, ut2003, operation flashpointSulkdodds said:Well, in my experience it's true to some extent. well i used to do that - so bloody annoying that they looked down on my hobby like it was as bad as drug abuse - i never play games at home anymore, thank the gods for universityHullu said:I've also noticed that adults think nothing of guys playing games where you just shoot people. But when a girl enjoys playing such games, it's somehow unthinkable. Double standards. It's like I'm immoral for playing them... they're only games, they aren't larger than life. So if my parents step into the room just as I'm in the middle of blasting helpless people into pieces, I press 'esc'.
My mother especially seems to have a problem with my inclinations to enjoy violent movies and games. She's in denial...
It was good to let that out.
sounds like me \o/Hullu said:I can't play at University computers, sadly... But soon I'm going to get a laptop, which will probably mark the day of doom for my studies. Ahhh no longer limits to how long and when I can play!! No longer succesfully completed courses and passed exams!
