I think that 8472 comes from Star Trek (Voyager?). btw, I am not a trekky - I have just been forced to watch a lot of it. I think that there was a deadly species called 'Species 8472'. The Federation hade to make a deal with the Borg to survive from Species 8472.

Please tell me if I am wrong and I have completely the wrong idea, and it's just a coincedence :E
