High definition mod for HL2?

You dont have to download from fileplanet, there are other places to download for free.
If you do download the mods make sure you download Fakefactory mod 9.0 base, then 9.0 HD Addon, Then 9.5 update in this order.

If you dont have 64bit windows you might get crashes like me when loading a new part of a map. Episodes 1 and 2 work fine though with the mods . When i play HL2 it crashes.



Well...I hate to tell you this but the FakeFactory v9.0 + HD Addon really does require a 64-bit system no matter how tricked out and powerful your 32-bit system might be.

This is what the developer states:

32 BIT WARNING:
--------------------------------------------------

This mod was developed and tested on 64 Bit Windows. It is NOT supported on
32 Bit Windows, because of the limited Userspace with 32 Bit systems. You
can try it on 32 Bit, but prepare for crashes.

On some 32 Bit systems it is possible to overcome this limitation with some
boot.ini switches for raising the userspace limit. I'm not going into
detail here, because those tweaks are dangerous and should only be done by
people, who are knowing exactly, what they do.

ADDENDUM:

V7 and above of this mod uses much more Hires textures than the previous versions. This means: The engine has to cache a peak-value of >2GB texture data at runtime. It's almost impossible to play this mod crash-free on 32 Bit systems without lowering the graphics settings.

I played some of the fakefactory stuff, but kept on crashing at a particular load area on water hazard. I'll wait till Windows7 comes out (assuming its because some elements need 64bit OS) to try again, and hopefully Ep3 would have come out by then.

1.5 dsl which isn't the greatest. At the previous apartments I lived at I was getting a 15 meg connection.

Meh, quit bitching. The guy who puts this stuff together has horrible taste, but you can lop new NPC models/music/textures in and out as you like. As a way to play HL2 with HDR and longer viewdistances/EP2 shading and models etc. it's pretty cool.

I think this guy's models have been consistently ugly enough that I wouldn't invest the time to download that much data, only to end up switching it off. I wouldn't go to a restaurant that had dog-shit and testicles on the menu, just because there was a chance that the Beef might be good.

More than anything, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. I struggle to think of five games with better models than Half-Life 2.

edit: this is a fine case study in why Half-Life 2's graphics were so good. Design, art-direction, and not the Technology.

With models: Alyx = Elexis Sinclaire, i.e. tramptastic.

You need 64 bit windows for it to work properly.

Also, mod sucks. Models are shit. Not going to download a 10 gig mod for a negligible change to already playable textures.
