High Dynamic Range problem

In Episode One when I have high dynamic range enabled see through white boxes appear around bullet holes and blood splatters from a certain distance. When you're close to the bullet holes or blood they're not there but as you back away they fade in. It's pretty annoying and causes me to want to disable high dynamic range but it makes everything look so nice. Does anybody know what may be causing this? This doesn't seem to happen on any other games in the orange box package other than episode 1.
