High End Gaming: Is Your Computer Ready For It?

An article was released today about what configuration will be needed to run Half-Life 2 and some other games. You can find the article here.

where did they get their information about HL2 frame rates? If that is true, I can run HL2 at 1024x768 with 4AA. That would be amazing.

Hmm... this is old/incorrect.

in an e-mail, the lowest CPU has jumped to at 1Ghz, not a 733mhz.

Also, there is no way in hell you'll be able to run hl2 always over 100fps with the cars they mentioned. even with any of the cards available. they're obviously speaking outta thier...

Also, you'll be able to play with a DX 7 card.... which is less than the gf4 they mentioned.

Wos a thread bout this day or to ago

Anyway...all i need to get is a 9800 pro or xt when prices drop (when x800 or wot ever comes out) 9800xt and pro will drop

Idd, this can't be true.. I understand that a 9800 pro with a good cpu & mem will run HL2 @ 60 fps (which is actually NORMAL), but at 130... Not.

That article is very poorly written. Sounds like the author is in junior high.

What a tosser.... he obviously doesn't know anything about the topic at hand. Besides that his Half-Life 2 specs are completely wrong (running HL2 at details low with a Ti4200?), why even bother posting something about Halo 2 of which we don't even know in what year to expect the pc version?
Just completely ignore this article.

EDIT: ah well, shouldn't be too harsh on the guy, it was written with good intention, but of course, the information in it is still nonsense.

Actually, he's a 17 year old high school junior.

Those framerates are pulled out of an area where the sun don't shine..
Even if he was basing that on the stolen build, he must've been staring at the floor during a firefight :|

i don't care what he says, i think i'll probably be playing the game at highest settings, full AA and full AF. (and i only have an athlon xp 2000) ... i can play dx:iw and far cry completely maxed, no lag at all.

How can that be? This article was released today...

I mean about the requirments needed to run HL2 :)

Not about that actual post

Actually, he's right, it's very poorly written. I haven't even finished reading it and this caught my attention.

"All though the video card is not all that plays the roll in gaming in today's world. "

Uh..?

RTFMish: And in this case, those people would be...?

You talking about the writer of the first article, or the writers of the one from your link?

Well your not going to get a good framerate with a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb on a shitty Pentium 2 600mhz processor..
The benchmarks from my link are accurate IMO

I think whoever wrote that first article is a turd.

The E3 Demo was played on a 2.8 gig Dell w/ 128MB Radeon 9800, and I saw a fair amount of skipping and slowdowns in the vid...

I didn't.

10 char limit is gay.

Yeah, the vid might be skipping but not necessarily the game. Why showcase a game on hardware that makes it look shite? :dozey:

I dont think HL2 will need fantastic graphics to be a good game tbh, and so long as you have a graphics card that supports DX9, you should get a nice enough spectacle without the performance suffering too much.

i dont care what you have theres no possible way you can run far cry above 1280x1024, with all settings maxed, and 4xAA on current day hardware ;)

unless you consider 25-36 average fps playable. :rolling:

im guessing your on 800x600 or 1024x768 but if you have atleast a 17 inch monitor...i dont call 800x600 - 1024x768 highest ;)

The places where I noticed the slowdowns the most was when riding in the buggy, after getting past the barricade when the gunship appears, and one or two times during the strider bit. Everything else ran smoothly.

It's worth noting that the E3 build was not necessarily optimized.

At any rate, the latest PC Zone article quoted Doug Lombardi saying that a 1GHz CPU and a DX 6 or 7 card (they haven't decided which yet) will be the minimum requirement, and anything above a 1.2GHz CPU will show negligible performance improvements provided you have a good video card.

Seeing as I have a 1.33GHz CPU and an nVidia Geforce FX 5700 Ultra, I'm all set!

umm.......wtf

We dont need computers to have fun, WE CAN PLAY WITH JESUS GOD DAMN IT!

People like this shouldn't be allowed to write articles with an audience...or at all.

The GeForce 5950 is already out and you can buy that, but the RADEON 9800 is not out yet, so I couldent say much or else I would be bull shitting you, along with the GeForce 6800 that's not out either and once again I would be bullshitting you if I included it. :)

Yes my system will be ready for HL2. It is optimized very well.

yea' i stolezit from da white massa. 'long wit his compooter.

I hate read that
why?
cuz my computer is so bad
and I dont hav so much money to buy videocards and all that stuff

my computer is pathetic

Yeah, I'm ready for HL2. I just bought a whole lot of new hardware, waiting on the case and RAM to come in. I'm dieing here just looking at this high end hardware and not being able to do anything with it

Just waiting on the new video cards to come out so I can hurry up and complete this beast!

I'm ready, though. XP 2500+ OCed to 2.24GHz, Radeon 9700, 1GB DDR PC2700 :)

umop, what'd you order? :)

I think the Minimum grapichs card should be a GF3 TI, or GF4 MX420.

my computer spec:
1.8 GHz
S3 32Mb videocard
224 RAM(I dont remenber)

Your system isn't too bad. What you need, however, is a better graphics card. You could manage a medium-range for under $100 USD

if that is possible,yea!
(of course I know thats not possible,I am not bumb)
