If I was able to, I'd donate $1 to your paypal account :)

Okay, so yeah, this has gone wayyyyy off topic

i dont care what you have theres no possible way you can run far cry above 1280x1024, with all settings maxed, and 4xAA on current day hardware ;)

Actually, I'm running Far Cry at 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF @ 40+ fps with the following hardware:

P4 2.8c GHz HT 800fsb
1gb Corsair Twin-X paired set @ 400Mhz DC.
9800pro 256mb (very-modestly OC'd)

I believe that HL2 will be LESS demanding hardware wise that Far Cry, so I should be able to run HL2 at 1600x1200 full detail. Doom 3 seems to be most demanding of the lot (funny since CryTek does the same type of hi-res model to low-poly conversion while running alot smoother. Then again, Doom's per-pixel lighting is probably more advanced than what we saw in Far Cry, and is probably closer to Splinter Cell thus being more demanding.

Actually, RhapSidious, you're a liar. :) Either that or you don't have all the ingame settings turned to max..

NO ONE can run the game at 1600x1200x32x4xFSAAx8xAFxultrahigh (weee, dragged that out for fun)

Okay. If you say so.

Okay, got any evidence? Screens? If you are to provide screens, make sure the scene is actually detailed, and not something like a table or a wall.

Go through the trouble for what? To prove myself to you? I'm not a kid that needs to lie to impress people. Anyway I'm sure there are others with similar setups who get similar fps. Don't get me wrong, it does slow down occasionally, but it's pretty steady at above 41-43fps.

Mmmmkay.. I'll just tell that to all the benchmarks and everything else I've seen.. even benchmarks on the 6800 ultra :|

im guessing your on 800x600 or 1024x768 but if you have atleast a 17 inch monitor...i dont call 800x600 - 1024x768 highest ;)
okay okay, i have an older 17" monitor, so max res is 1024X768. i have:

athlon xp2000(with thermaltake silent flow)
768 MB pc 2700 ddr ram(crucial/micron)
msi kt3ultra2
asus a9800xt video card.
audigy 2
40 gb maxtor hd (sniffle, i need more)
48x24x48 lite-on IT cdrw
floppy blah blah
and 3 case fans so things stay cool, and yes i can tell a performance increase with good cooling ... yay!

the game runs COMPLETELY SMOOTH... never a hickup or slow down even with lots of enemies fighting eachother... with everything maxed aside from the res that i can't get any higher b/c of crappy monitor. but far cry, halo, dx, i've set all those games to max addressable res for my monitor(1024x768) and maxed all game settings, never once have had any slowdown from any of those games. they run just as smooth as cs so eh.

I'm ready, though. XP 2500+ OCed to 2.24GHz, Radeon 9700, 1GB DDR PC2700 :)

umop, what'd you order? :)

tcwo, newegg, xoxide, frozencpu... basicly all over :D
So far I bought the following just for HL2 (and doom3/stalker of course):
CPU - CPU Cooler - Mobo - RAM (2 sticks of these) - Case - PSU - HDD

I'm waiting on the new video cards coming out and then getting the better. Then to top all of this off, I will be buying the gigaworks s750 next paycheck and I havn't decided on the monitor yet. Then it shall be complete, and I'll be utterly content and reclusive for about a year until it becomes obsolete :x

The cooler is way bigger than I had thought though. I'm afraid it's going to occupy my first RAM slot... but I guess I'll see later on.

Edit: RhapSidious, Shuzer is right. I highly doubt you can run that game on those settings with the claimed framerate. Actually, I will paypal you $50 right now if you can prove it, and I'm not even kidding either because I know you can't. Photochops don't count!

Oops, somehow I read that as "where'd you order?" instead of what. I'm useless.

Sure, why not? Just think how good it'll feel to present the evidence and shut all us ignorant posers up. Oh, and for the record, I think you're full of shit as well.

I've upgraded to a XP2500+ OCed to 2.15ghz, gig of PC3200 DDR ram, Radeon 9800 SE (its the 256 bit version which can OC to a Pro once I get the cooling sorted) and it can handle FarCry with ease.

yes... cause Halo 2 has been announced for the PC :hmph:
Quite. Besides, I refuse to trust anyone who spells "a lot" as one word.

I'm kind of waiting till a month or two before HL2 comes out to get a new rig.
Right now :
Pentium 3 / 1140Mhz / 133Mhz FSB
ATi Radeon 64Mb
SDRAM / 1024Mb - totals 1Gig

Hopefully by the time I order these, the prices will have dropped :
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (going to o/c it) / 333Mhz FSB
Saphire Radeon 9800Pro 128Mb
DDR / 512Mb / PC2700
and a super duper case that can support 6 fans :)

I want my HL2 experience to be the best thing, and most fun that I have ever had.

Thank God for the money I had to put in this PC!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how my 3.2GHz will stand up to it? :)
Raedon 9800 Pro.
1GB of memory.

I have the same specs Moppe. From dell. £1700 ish.. I know I know, If I could be arsed I could build it for cheaper. But my mum paid for it. (We moved house and we had profit from old house and mum treated me  )

Oh and it has a 5.1 sound system with a sub about twice as big as my tower.... :E

8 GB RAM? I dont believe your serious... :p

Come over to my place. My windows-computer is gaming only and maybe some windowsapps sometimes.

I'm a Mac-user at heart and I'll always be. I've 1 Powermac G5 with 8GB and 5 Xserve G5 with 8GB. :)
Did I mention that they are 2X2GHz G5 in each and everyone of them?

What kind of a gaming machine is a Mac?
You might as well load Linux, and call it your gaming machine :dozey:

I've never said that Mac was a gaming machine. Although it's getting better with things like UT2004 and so on, games is the only reason I keep Windows, Mac is so much better on everything else. :)

In order to play those games tho, you have to use an emulator tho..

when i played the beta with my GeforceFx 5200 PCI card the game ran with almsot no slowdown at all at 1024x768 and im guessing max graphics (there is no option to adjust them) and that wasn't even OPTIMIZED yet.... Im sure the real thing will run like a dream ESPECIALLY if you have a high end card

No, I use my Windows-PC.

God, does anyone actully read what you write now?

Then why are you talking about your Mac? I doub't anybody gives a shit about it.

Man, if I knew that questioning the amount of RAM he has was going to turn into a Windows vs. Mac battle I wouldnt have even asked it... :x

Moppe, why don't you post screenshots of your "My Computer -> Properties" and your Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced? I highly you doubt you have what you claim you cranky bastard.

Why?
I don't need to prove myself to anybody.
I'm using a prebuilt Dell-package. Alot of people has the exact the same configuration as me.
