Well, here's the start of another model from me (will he ever finish it? dum, dum, derr!) to learn some more stuff in Max. It's an acoustic guitar (wip), and I haven't set myself a polygon limit (I'm just going for as much detail as possible).

Anyhow, crits welcome:

More pics.

(btw, the wireframe is quite old, but if figured I'd include it just to show how many polies this sucker is :))

that's an acoustic uitar alright :)
still pretty early in development, but nice modeling so far, the proportions seem ok, the render / scene / texture / materials is what will make this or break this, good luck!

So far, so good. Nothing like an acoustic guitar on a saturday evening :)

Amazing how quicly time passes.

This model has since become part of my final year university project along with a load of other stuff and for my needs (accuracy aside it's as good as done).. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/craigweb2k/guitar/ here is the model on a webpage which you can rotate around using a 3d plugin called Cult 3d if you so choose...

Controls are:

Right Mouse : Zoom

Left Mouse : Rotate

Both Mouse Buttons : Move

Its got no strings.

Good though.

thats cos' I don't want anyone playing it while I'm not looking :|

looks brilliant

make sure that when you've finished modeling it, you put lots of break points on, and a command that can set it on fire :D Jimi Hendrix re-enactments to the MAX!

I wanna be able to shoot grenades out of the neck of that thing at combine sometime soon!

Don't you think Nurbs (or any kind of surface method) would do better in this case? I mean.... It's a curved model. Maybe you should use curves to create it...

bit of an update..

just did a GI render to test some stuff out and I think it looks pretty sweet considering the models arent nearly as high detail and I'd hoped for...

oh, and the middle one is a wip incase you're wondering :D

Very very nice dude i am looking forward to seeing it in action :P keep up the good work

texture for middle one done.

Gonna re-do the back of the body & neck on the middle one to fit more in line with what ovation guitars really look like.

wow i like what i see very good detail you should make some electrics or bass. It would be really cool if you made a Jackson Randy Rhoades or a bc rich beast or even an Explorer

wheeee

I want to pick it up with a gravity gun and kick some combine arse!

if it's high poly, meaning. add as much detail as possible. what happened to the frets?

It has got frets it dosent have fret markers because acoustics never do.

Well i may have over exaggerate a bit but on the majority they tend not to have them.

my point was THE MODEL doesn't have frets. high poly modelling = add as much detail as possible. Frets are 3d, they should've been modelled ideally if you were going for 'high poly'. imo.

thats such garbage, I own an acoustic guitar, my sister owns one, my brother owns one, and my friend owns one, all of them have "fret markers" or whatever you want to call them.

to stay on topic.. freaking awesome model :naughty: do you play guitar?

I added the fret markers into one of the textures, but not all (because I was going for variation).

Initially this was a personal project (yes a high poly one), but it evolved into part of something I've since submitted as my final year University Major Project.

One of the rules was that the guitars had to work in real-time so that they could be ran from an Internet browser. I therefore had to lower the level of detail visible on them to get this to work.

Anyhow. I've just submitted my assignment 40 minutes ago and I'm really happy with the media side of the work, it's just the report writing side that I suck serious ass at, which will ultimatley lower my mark by 1 whole grade probably.

Here is a video of my final year project in action. Enjoy! (3mb)(2 mins)

Oh yeah, and incase anyone is wondering, the reason this is even in this forum is because the date I started this thread this forum was called "models & skins" and _wasn't_ in a source editing & development forum... it was just "models & skins" :P

i said FRETS, not Fret markers. ffs. i wish people would learn to read :P I like the end product though!
