I definitely think more needs to be done to keep violent video games out of the hands of children. However, these politicians shouldn't be targeting the whole gaming community, they should be focusing on parents and their responsibilities. They're looking for the quickest way to solve this "problem" and because of that, they've overlooked the real issue. The average age of a gamer, I think, is around 29-30 years old. The underage minority and their parents need to understand that it's not video games who create murderers and thugs but, rather, lack of appropriate parenting.
 
She wants to add tax to voilent video games, despite the age, Im 18.
 
The government has no place to rate or control the sell of media to the people. If a store wants to they should be able to sell video games, porn, and violent movies to anyone they want. The responsibility lies firmly on the parent and no one else. It's not up to everyone else to raise your goddamn kid. If you don't want him to play violent games, don't buy them. If the kid goes behind your back and gets them anyway, don't let him play it. Don't let him go to other kids houses and play them.

When the kid gets to the age where he can't be controlled so easily ... video games are pretty much a non-issue. A 14/15 year old kid will not only likely be able to handle an M rated game perfectly fine, but the game would probably one of the less vulgar/"harmful" things the kid does.

But all this is besides the point, it's wrong purely on principle if nothing else. This is nothing but another bullshit issue (similar to gay marriage and flag burning) designed to gather more votes come election time.

Indeed. Proper parents that actually take interest into what their children play behind the TV/PC.
 
ironically, the money raised from taxing violent video games to protect children will be used to buy more cluster bombs, and kill actual children in other countries

Why not? Operating in a group is harder. Too many working parts, too many things that can go wrong. Much easier with a single guy with a rifle.

When it comes to this issue Australia is even worse. It will probably never be as bad here as it is there. You have a government issued rating system that won't allow games to be sold if they don't fall under a certain category defined by the government, effectively banning them. This whole thing is about trying to prevent that system from being instituted here. As much as I hate it the ESRB/MPAA is a far better choice than government ratings/censorship.

This taxation thing is just a stupid political ploy that will never go anywhere. The only place these laws have ever succeeded is on the state level and even then they are usually deemed unconstitutional within a couple months.
 
This is just proof we need to do out duties as civilians of the USA, and vote. We can't just sit around and see if shit will pan out our way. It's going to come to the day when the way we play videogames is going to be changed, and we need to act. We really can't just sit here and twiddle our thumbs, curse them over an internet forum, or just bitch about it. This is a Democracy, and the people *are supposed to* control the government.

I had an idea when this whole Jack Thompson thing started. Every gamer who has played violent videogames, but has not commited any serious crime *shoplifting lipstick doesn't count..* should protest...walk on DC or something. Show them how MANY of us there actually are, and they are concentrating on the small minority.

I will give Clinton the benfit of the doubt on this one. The story is unsourced and there is no other news organizations reporting on this. Plus there has been a lot of bullshit out and about trying to discredit her in everyway possible. This is not to say I support everything she does but I am not willing to take a story that has no back up and use it to say what a terrible whore she is ;).

Taxing Video games for violence, is like taxing baby diapers because they have a chance of getting shitty... They wanna pass on vidio games not having violence? Need for speed has violence in it, just from hitting another car... Is that bad? Is that gonna scar me for life, so that I think I have to drive 180 mph into ever car I see? **** no. She's just trying to get the votes of the parents who don't want to parent. If you don't want to parent, sign your kids up for adoption. She claiming that she was working with children, and the ammount of stuff that they see in video games was scarring them? Van_Halen, as much as I disagree with her on video games there are a few things more important in this world than your right not to pay taxes on video games (something that is not proven to even be true about her). People are dying all over the world, economy is turning to shit, religion is taking over your government, children are living in poverty by record numbers all because of this **** up we call our president and you are worried because you think she might tax your Grand Theft Auto? Please, grow up.

I know some people can't see that someone doing one pointless thing before they are even in the elections means they will do many more, but seriously... video games? exactly my point. There are more important things out there to deal with, and I was joking a lot in that post... just so you know. It's pointless to try to get rid of all violence in video games, because even games like mario, and pacman had violence in it...
