Firefox 3 isn't scheduled for a release until June. There will be a period of release candidates after the beta.

But use the FF3 beta, it's bloody awesome. The new location bar is an amazing feature and it uses a fraction of the resources of FF2 and is faster too. If you wanna maintain all your extensions, add this boolean to about:config

extensions.checkCompatibility

Set it to false. It will load all your addons, not all of them will work, but most do. On rare occasions, it might screw up your Firefox though, so use this power wisely.

Does it replace FF2 like an update or is it separate like a different program? I have my firefox pretty customized I don't want to try FF3 only to find that I have to go back to FF2 and set everything up again.

It's a different program, you can still use FF2. But switching between the two causes the back and forward arrows in the menu bar to disappear. You can just put them back though.

I said the same thing for beta 4. Someone told me how to put it back (don't remember who and I don't wanna look it up but thanks ).
Right-click on the Navigation toolbar and enable the Bookmark Toolbar. To get that HOME button from the bookmark onto the Nav. toolbar is pretty easy. Right-click on the Nav. toolbars and go to CUSTOMIZE. Ignore the window with the icons that pops up in front. In the background, you can now drag the HOME button to the other bar. Close icon window. Then get rid of the bookmark toolbar.
