Hiroshima - Really necessary?

Maybe I missed it in the block of text that is this thread, but what happened with the nuclear fallout in these cities? Both Hiroshima and Nagasaki are thriving communities again but Chernobyl and the surrounding areas will be uninhabited for years to come.

Also, I was under the impression that the Cold War was started over a difference of ideologies. Both the U.S.A and the Soviets wanted to rebuild the fallen, occupied nations in their own way.

Chernobyl was not a nuclear explosion. The reactor itself exploded, but was very contained. It was poisonous, radioactive gas leaking all over the place that caused the evacuation of Pripyat and other surrounding towns...

I believe the fallout in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was relatively light, due to the low yield of the bombs used.

Was the first bomb justified? Probably not.
Was the second bomb justified? Absolutely not.

The bombings were to end the war before Russia could invade Japan from the north, to avoid Japan ending up like Germany.

Japan also has no natural supply of oil or iron, when cut off from it's empire Japans industry was finished.

However the Japanaese were as bat shit crazy as the Germans when it came to defending the fatherland to the last man.
