Hit location question...

Yup, there are bullet/damage decals on NPC bodies - watch the 2k4 e3 presentation video, Gordon swings his crowbar at those hanging legs a few times, and hit decals appear on them.

Awesome. I always loved that feature in the orginal hitman...but they removed it from the other games...I wonder why..

Arg, I don't even want to imagine what this could lead to in multiplayer.
On a related note, does anyone know if metal objects can become dented by using the manipulator/other weapons?

It was something about them rendering the game in a different way from Hitman 2 onwards, which made adding decals to bodies very hard to do. I'm incredibly glad it's a feature of Half-Life 2, I'm one of those psychos that gets great pleasure out of seeing where exactly I shot someone :D

I don't belive you will see the mutilation factor of SoF2 though. In one of the emails posted here Gabe had stated that that kind of violence was not in keeping of the established game style of HL.

Having your computer physically calculate the impact force and then actually alter the texture and polygon accordingly? I would guess no. Most computers would have a seizure before they could do that.

I don't know if it was just my imagination or not, but on the e3_coatlines vid (from 2003 - the one with the buggy) when that alien gunship is shooting at the crashed cars, don't the cars get crushed a little from the impact?

You mean seeing your teammate running around with a bullethole in his face? :stare:

No. The Source engine does not feature dynamicly deformable objects.

I've asked this before I think, but I'm still not sure about it so here it is again:

Does HL2 feature blood spattering on dynamic objects? So does a guy walking behind another guy that gets shot, a bloodspatter decal on him?
That would be really cool.

im another one of those that like realism... not for the gore factor, but because i find it more imersive you could say... in Farcry after i sniped a guy, i'd run to him just to check where i hit him exactly :D.

Nothing actually. In multiplayer mode such decals are disabled :p

Not a problem. Seems to be a popular time to be adding quotes to peoples' sigs, I see.

what makes you say that?
and why would they be? that would be crappy, thats like disabling wall decals.

Source does not support this dynamically, but there are a lot of things that you can do to imitate the effect. HL2 uses several things to simulate real world effect damage on specific things. Barrels will dent and change physical property in real time. It isn't dynamic, but it does work well. Talented enough modelers and coders will be able to pull it off without most people really knowing the difference.

In one of the shakycam valve-visit videos you see a zombie getting shot in the head with a magnum, the blood splatters onto the wall. AFAIK that's the only instance of blood splattering we've seen, and that's on a static object. So I think the answer would be the good old "we don't know (yet)"

Am I the only one that wanted to quote that in my sig? :D

Oh well, we have to do something until HL2 is out.

To be specific I was thinking of TFC: Source and HWGs running about with multiple punctures in them. :/

As for the denting I knew it was a long-shot, but it would be nice.
