HL 2 and Epidsode 1 & 2 - what order?

Hello there, I'm new to the whole Half-Life series. I just recieved the Orange Box for Christmas and I am wondering, what is the order in which these 3 games are meant to be played? I'm talking about Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1 and Half Life 2: Episode 2. Thank you in advance; I appreciate it.

If you are new to the series then it would be wise to go through the first Half-Life and the expatiation packs. But you have the order right; Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode 1, Half Life 2: Episode 2.

I also got Orange Box for Xmas but instead of playing HL2 all the way through I decided to play each one for a bit and then carry on through the proper order otherwise you'd be wasting 2 amazing games until you complete HL2 also I completed portal before I did anything.

But what about Half-Life 1 and it's expansions Opposing Force and Blue Shift? You gotta play those too, you can't just start from the sequel.

Do you like, watch Terminator 3 and then the first one?

I was planning on getting steam and at least half life 1 for PC cos i don't have a PS2 unless its in the bargain bin a Game cos it looks amazing and theres only so much you can get from wikipedia but youd have to play all those games before you played HL2 according to you and I don't have that much time

I played HL1 after HL2, actually. I wish I had played it the other way around coz this way I couldn't REALLY appreciate HL after HL2's awesomeness. Although I did play the first 10 minutes of HL1 before HL2 came out and was VERY impressed, too bad I played the whole thing after HL2.

I played the HL1 demo,and could've bought the full game on PS2,but I went with HL2 on Xbox instead,so I don't know exactly what happens,but,after joining this forum,I got an idea of the story

Well if anyone hasn't played HL1 yet, I doubt they'll get to it since it's pretty long and it may not be that appealing in this age of "next-gen" games. But Black Mesa: Source will fix that.

I played HL1 but I was veerryy small :d I replayed it 2 months B4 HL2 release.

I started with Half-Life 2 on Xbox, not knowing what it was, and I understood everything and was able to get the important details about the first game through the dialouge.

The two games are completley diffrent sorylines and can definitley be played with HL 2 first.

When I finally played HL1 and the expansions, i didn't get that "OHH!! So thats why (insert event in HL2 here) happened!" feeling.

HL2 was designed that newcomers could enjoy the game without playing HL1.Doesn't really matter if you miss out on HL1 but you will miss out on the little details like the microwave casserole joke in Episode 2.

its definitely worth getting HL1 cos its costs less than a tenner for the main game and all the expansions and it won a few awards so despite the graphics, which aren't really that much of a problem to me, the gameplay is extraordinary

Why would you do that? In what way would you be spoiling the episodes? (if you were joking, then I apologize)
