For you people in the UK, the latest PC Format (December) has a pretty interesting 6 page article about Half Life 2, details the best hardware to play it, goes into fairly good detail about the Source engine, and details what Cards would be best for HL2, and also does a Doom III vs HL2 comparison as well

Even though there is'nt any new info, its still pretty interesting reading, it's even got a pretty good 'Gordon Freeman lookalike' article in it. I never noticed it til they pointed it out but the character Al from Toy Story II is the spitting image of Freeman! Who knows maybe Freeman is a closet Toy Collector? :cheese:

Too bad I'm not in the UK.. =( Can you summarize the article in any way? Like.. give us the juice on their Doom 3 vs HL2 comparsion?

lol, I'm fine with America, but I wouldn't mind picking that mag up, that's all :)

Actually, I wouldn't mind visiting the UK either, my dad's been there, he got a buncha photos, some really cool places to visit as far as I could tell

Should be able to, mainly they are going on about the graphics, and how HL2 as DX9 shader programs (Im assuming these are the programs that does the shadows etc) and how HL2 seems to be able to use all the Shader options in DX9, while Doom III shader program seems less advanced as its based on DX8 that had less shader options for the programmer. Also mentions how the lighting systems on the two games are different. HL2 seems to use a mixture of static & dynamic lighting while Doom III lighting system is fully dynamic, which means all calculations are alot more complex, but it looks alot more real. ALos says how both games feature self shadowing models and dynamic shadows. Thats about it, nothing really new as such. Hope this helps.
