HL first or HL Source?

I don't have Half-life or Half-life source, and i want to buy 1 but don't know which to buy first. Classic... or remake of classic?

classic would be better since well its the orginal but the only difference is gfx and physics

I'd play HL1 the original, if you haven't played HL2 already so the step up is amazing for you.

If you have played HL2 already, i'd play HL : S as your eyes may not be able to adjust to the age of the original game.

Id say play the original, on the other hand im not so sure. I mean hl:s is the same thing better gfx so why not play that?

better gfx??? the only thing better in hl:s is the water. The only reason to buy the classic hl would be that you get opposing force and blue shift, wich are great games. For example, opforce is more intense than hl and it's plays around the original hl story.

Also better lightning, ragdolls, the NPC's follow you around much better, you can have more than two NPC's following you, the marines are harder (seems like they got better accuracy, fires faster). Overall, HL:S is much better than the original imo.

But if that's true that you get both OP4 and BS for free when you buy the original, then go and buy that instead of HL:S as those expansions are really awesome.

I just remembered you get Opposing Force (its definitly right at the quality level of HL1 itself I cant decide which is better), and a quick action packed expansion blue shift which wasnt so bad for just a little expansion.

HL original u should get because with the 2 free expansions you will get the whole story of what happened at black mesa. So my vote would be get the original

I had multiple NPCs following me in the original. You're probably just imagining the others. I doubt Valve changed the NPCs much at all.

That's funny, because it ain’t work for me. And I have played through the original more than 20 times.

I once tried to have 3 Barneys following me, but whenever I "used" the third one, one of the other guys would stop and not follow me.

Loke they probably set it to 3 with a patch, but there probably was a time very early in it's years that you could get unlimited.

Oh yes. I remember that. That's because you're issuing a command to more than 1 at a time. To combat this you had to feep them separate when you were assigning them(difficult) or have them all not following you next to eachother(also diffucult) and neither would garantee success.

If I have a half life cd that dates from pre-Steam days, how do you get it to work with steam? I want to know because people say that you get blue shift and opposing force for free when you get HL. I was planning to get the Half Life platinum collection (because it comes with Opposing Force and Blue shift), but if I can get those for free I might as well just buy Half Life by itself, it'll be cheaper.

i've played the original one only and about 20 times, i think the best thing to do, if you haven't bought HL2 yet, it to buy the platinum pack, which has the original and 6 other great games of half-life, (blue-shift, op4, dod, tfc, ..) and then, buy the silver pack for HL2 which has both the HL2 and HL:S and costs less than the gold pack. ( and it says it'll have DoD:S too after the release)
