HL in the hall of fame

OMG, gotter, chill man, you guys have to admit that Halo is one of the greatest games of the 21'st century. And I can admit that I will never forget Mario and Donkey Kong. Especially Mario, I own every Mario game starting from the classic nintendo donkey kong. The only one I dont have is Mario 2 which I heard wasnt all that great in the first place. There are other places where mario and Kong are commemerated. Seriously, believe me, there are tons of people out there who respect Mario and Kong, those are the games that led up to all the good crap we have now.

Played Halo. I hate it.

I believe that title belongs to the Zelda series.

I don't really consider Zelda an RPG, it's more of a platform adventure game, really. Either way, though, I'd be willing to bet that Final Fantasy has (Or had, I admit that lately the games have been lack-luster at best) a much larger following, and a larger library of titles that have tried to follow in their footsteps.

Just let it go Warbie, we know you're a Halo fan boy ;).

hehe maybe I am, and just don't know it. The worlds first console and pc fanboy ;) (Weirdly enough, on console forums you find me defending PC games)

You've gotta admit though, if Halo had been released on the PC first it wouldn't have received half of the attention it got on the X-Box, and why is that?

..... because Halo, like Golden Eye before it, is a console game through and through. It needs to played with a joypad on a big TV (preferably co-op, with a friend). Take away analogue movement, rumble and trigger buttons, stick it on a tiny montior, and you're left with a tame excuse of a game that is waaay too easy. (and none of this rubbish about Halo on the Xbox only being challenning due to its poor controls. Joypads make aiming harder and slower, not worse. By the same reasoning a mouse and keyboard will become redundant as soon as someone develops a mind reading peripheral that grants headshots by thought alone. In some games I like the feeling of actually carefully taking aim - and joypads do this so much better. Let's face it, in a slow game, getting a headshot with a m&k is as hard as opening a folder in windows))

Because it is definitely the best FPS you can get on the X-Box and arguably the best game on the X-Box. it wouldn't have held up nearly as well in the PC market, because on the PC it's pff, average!

I agree that it's average on the pc ;) But not in comparison to pc shooters (where are these titles?) If you're talking about games like Far Cry, CoD and Doom3 - well, they aren't even in the same league (imo ;)) One week wonders at best.

But yes, i'm starting to sound like a broken record, and will try to 'let it go' :) (If people stop slagging off console games i'll stop defending them ....... and we can all rejoice \o/)

I'm with ya there Warbie. I don't own an X-Box, but a few months after they came out me and a mate hired one and played through Halo on co-op mode in the space of a couple of days. I can honestly say that that was some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game. Halo is an excellent game, and no doubt made a very large impact on the console gaming world (which, let's face it, is a bigger and more influential market than PC gaming). Although I don't believe Halo belongs at the top of the hall of fame, and Master Chief most certainly doesn't belong up there, I do think it is an excellent game that deserves all of it's accolades and then some.

But don't get me started on the PC version.

I don't exactly know what you mean by this, there are plenty of PC shooters better than Halo on the PC, Half-Life for example, Deus Ex & System Shock 2 are in essence PC shooters just incorporating RPG elements. The Quake series is better than Halo on the PC. Unless you mean more modern shooters? In which case Call of Duty, Medal of Honour and Battlefield are all superior in my opinion, I also found DooM 3 quite fun, it was just like the original with prettier graphics :).

as far as I remember Halo came out before DooM 3 and Far Cry on the PC.

Even Serious Sam!

They Keyboard and Mouse were around before the control pad, I think they've gone a step backwards with the control's on console FPS's. Just my opinion, I mean should aiming really be that difficult?

personally i think halo blows..it was the lamest game ive ever played..well thats my opinion of course..all my other friends like it tho

The winners will no doubt be determined by newbies who started playing last year. I wouldn't vote for Half-Life, though.

Wait, what's this: "The first-of-its-kind landmark honoring the icons and pioneers of the videogame industry"

They want to honor the pioneers of the videogame industry by allowing kids to vote for Halo and Grand Theft Auto?

GTA was a pioneer with its open gameplay, super duper great violence and Free Roaming gameplay, but Halo is stupid.

If characters are going to be on there, the DooM marine has to be there. He is the most badass space marine ever born. God, I'd like to see how well Mario would do vs. 60 imps, 20 pinky demons, 4 Mancubesseses, 2 revenants and a helluva lot of lost souls. All at once. (I still remember this scene in Doom II vividly as ever....what a good game).

EDIT: Just an opinion here, but I think that the DooM marine kicks the living hell (har har) out of Master Cheif hands down.

I think this is were agree it's all subjective. There are few pc shooters that can match Halo at what it does. SS2 and Deus Ex are very different games. (CoD, MoH and Serious Sam don't deserve a place in this :))

As for aiming being hard with a joypad - it isn't that difficult at all - just takes a little practise ;)
