HL wont start

hey guys. i have little problem with hl2. it goes to desktop right after load screen( it is the screen with loading thing after the VALVe movie). its so anoying...i've been fighting with this problem all day today :angry: . reinstalled everything possible. the worst thing it doesnt give me any errors! also cs: s and hl:s will crash the same way.

my steam configuration is fine

and also pc is fine too since every single game works fine! even *cough* cracked cs:s worked fine when i had it . not to worry...obviously i have legal one now

that is the same inage i get but mine says 61% downloaded (tho it downloaded completly)

and i am gonna go uninstall and reinstall

re-download doesn't seem to help..

i preloaded, and got my HL up and running last night, only to run into some texture and sound issues today... so I figured I'd reinstall

ever since, after 2-4 hours downloading HL2 again, it says complete, launch game... yadda yadda..

locks up at the loading screen (before start new game/load game etc)

and when i check properties in my games list, it says 58% downloaded, not ready for offline, and "needs update" or something of the sort..

tried re-downloading for the fourth time now, and still no dice

my problem is the same...
it stays in the loading screen and does absolutely nothing. the hard drive works a little bit and other than that the computer will not respond to anything but mouse movements, and the power button (soft off). the hl2 properties say its 68% acquired and taking 838Mb of disk space. how do i update it so it gets 100% acquired?

i've deleted and re-downloaded so many times, and that's not workin for sure...

I think the next best thing to try might be deleting steam (and its resources) altogether, and re-installing steam, and then re-downloading HL2..

not a sure fix, just a thought... anyone in this same predicament able to figure it out?

i tried reinstalling everything. deleted steam and everything valve related, and then installed everything again. still no bloody luck

I have the same problem, you start it up and then goes back to desktop right after loading screen. I've submitted a question to steampowered about it.....almost a month ago October 26th (this was submitted then cause all of my source games does it, including Counter Strike Source which is what I originally posted it for), and they still don't have a solution and I'm hoping they have one friggin soon cause my patience are drying up

no it doesnt go back to the desktop on mine.. it just hangs there. the hard drive shows a flash of activity every second or so and nothing short of a system shutdown will budge it. When I played CS:S a while back, I never got anything like this.

mine only took 300 first time 200 mins send time redownloading now and its 240

Damn my mate has the same problem as you guys, so no one has an answer for this yet? He has trying reinstalling and using different drivers but no luck this is a nasty problem. Hope someone can come up with an answer soon

Same problem. At steampowered they have had a thread about this since ythe end of last year and there still hasn't been a universal fix.

hasnt been a universal fix ? I spent hours trying to get this piece of junk to work. Am i correct in thinking that it just freezes after the movies and theres a loading screen with an image behind it ?
