Im really wondering how all of us are going to act towards this game. These videos dont show much and people tend to be bitching alot about little things when really this game is going to explode on the gaming market. Im just curious if there are going to be times when you want to cry, feel that your so inside the game you forget about your real life and whats going on, get pissed in the game, suprises, maybe even turned on? HAHA who knows but i was reading over some of the interviews of HL2 and i really cant wait, i just hope its ready by September, i dont want to wait longer for this. What do you guys think...emotional game or no? Check it:

Trepid: From your standpoint, is there any particular feature in Half-Life 2 that you are especially fond of?

Gabe Newell: It's a toss-up between the work Ken Birdwell did with acting and emotions, and the work that Jay Stelly did on physics.

This game is really going to draw you in, i cant wait!

They say we will really get locked into the game. This has only happened to me in HL1 and Black and White (though B&W had more bugs to start with than I could count, and took a bit away from the fun). In HL1 I thought to myself, what the hell did I do!!!, just as everything went crazy and the lab basically exploded.

me too man, i didnt even like the game at first, after the experiment and stuff like that i really got drawn in and it was something i had never ever experienced in a game, i really hope they accomplished this in HL2.

yeah everyone looks at the videos and goes "oh man no AA.. god these graphics suck.. wtf??... that was retarded.. CLIPPING!"

im sure once you hold the HL2 box in your hand and are able to call it "yours".... you'll be more like "WAAAHOOOOOOO IM HOLDING HL2!!"

yep, all of these spoiled hl fans complaining about every single thing, NOTHING IS PERFECT!!! Valve just needs to get this game out September and its going to sell like crazy and they know it, oh well people will have to deal with the little things, the gameplay is going to be unbelieveable.

The first time i really got emotional in HL1 was when i was running through this very dimmley lit area with a Barney, now i didnt see the danger but all of a sudden i hear what sounded like choaking, i turn around to see Barney has gone. Strange i though, maybe he has got stuck somewhere then 'crack, splat' all of Barneys parts fall down onto me. I tell you, i ****ing ran like hell then...all because of one stupid barnacle. Also, shouting at the barney who got dragged into the Vent at the start of 'We've Got Hostiles' then following that scientist to his doom. Good stuff, hoping HL2 will be waaaaaaaay better.

yeah..those helpless little Barney's and Scientists were actually very funny ! :D

HL1 was a scary game.Probally the most scariest one.Scariest part for me was when you got past the those red lasers and came upon this room with water everywhere and all of a sudden you hear this zap, and the a crab thing appeard out of no where.I went over to see what it looked like and all of a sudden it jumped at me and I fell out of my chair. :(

I'll be crying with joy when I first start it up.

I remember the part of the game immediatly after Barney opens up the door to the parking garage. I look to the left and i see 2 marines. Next thing i know a garg comes out of nowhere and splats them, then begins chasing me. Man that chase was crazy. I was holding down the up arrow button and clicking my jump button like crazy as i see the ground shaking and was too scared to turn around

I'm gona shit my pants when the screen fades to black and it says "Subject: Gordon Freeman ..." :cheese:

I still get frightened when a Garg is chasing me, especially when Im running for the power generator :E

Also the headcrabs frightened me a lot but I got used to them.

One other creature I was really afraid of were those swimming things (cant recall their name), I truly feared the water in which they swam.

the swimming like monster parrana (spelling!)

yea man that was scary!!

like when u saw the cage in the middle, with the NEW weopon inside it. when u have the weapon, the cage falls in the water, and then the monster parrana comes SOO fast after you!.

that was MAD!

i loved the CAGE above the water scene sooo good! :)

That's a coincidence - I was thinking the exact same thing about you. That and "Troll".

Yeah me too. :)

I didn't bond that well with the scientists. I downloaded just about every scientist killing map and I was rolling on the floor. It's weird that a person can get satisfaction from killing innocent, hapless and helpless scientists. :D

I liked Barney the security guard. Even though he wasn't any help, he was a constant, a dose of sanity every level or two. Barney's unquestioning loyalty and look-death-in-the-face courage must have made an impression on me, as I found myself protecting and covering them in an attempt to keep them alive as much as possible.

Barney was no help? When I played hte game, my barney was kicking ass. I think it was a little buggy. He had crazy good aim. He was able to take out two or three grunts by himself with that pistol. I never bother with the scientists though, can't every really help them. :/ I just let them stay where they are. If they get attacked, I try to save them, but hell if I'll let them play tagalong. Me and Barney will take care of the tough stuff. :cheese:

dude in the begging of "we got hostials," the first time i played, (when barney got eatin by the zombie) i was sitting there then all of a sudden i shouted "NO YOU FU<K OPEN THE DOOR, PLEASE COME BACK, PLEASE, IM SORRY I CALLED YOU A FU<K BARNEY, (barney starts punching the zombie) KILL HIM, KICK HIS ASS, KICK....HIS.... M*****FU<KING...ASS, YEAH THATS RIGHT YOU LITTLE SH1T HEAD ZOMBIE BARNEYS A BAD ASS. (barneys guts go flying out the vent) NOOOOOOOOOOOO BARNEEEEEEEYYYYYYY." (a single solitary tear rolls down my right cheek and falls on my keyboard in slow motion as i sit in apsolute silence and shock while watching the scientist run to his death)

yeah...i love this game.

Spamboo I love the drama, haha, yeah HL1 was awesome at drawing you into the game and having a bond with some characters.

1.when it comes to aiming, Barney is a god. Most of the time when he is shooting at an enemy, he doesnt even look at what he's shooting, he's looking at me and makes some comment. Now THAT is how you aim. L0L :sniper:
2.the scientists are actually able to heal you a little if you have low enough health. Kinda like in Wolf3D, when your health was less than 10% you could drink blood of the floor. :x

PS. For you lammers out there, Wolf3D is a classic and if you never played it, you are pitiful:angry:;(

Remember that hl1 level that first introduced you to the sniper ninja assassin women?

After the elevator pulls up and Barney starts talking to me about danger up ahead he gets shot through the head. I was all like. You BASTARDS! You killed my friend barney! I'll kill you for that!

about 8 or so quicksave/quickloads later i finally killed all the black ops assassin ladies and barney was avenged

the only thing that got boring was planet zen...everything else kept you in suspense...

and those black ops women pissed me off....

Yeah that's some scary stuff :D

The water monster was called the Icthyosaur I believe...

Gargs, well placed headcrabs, and icthyosaurs scare me the most...those tentacles are pretty frightening too when you're trying not to make any noise...

i got scared at the part were its all like... a narrow walk way above water.. like a metal plate walkway..and you had to jump through a whole in teh fence that had an electrical wire hannging down.. and if you feel in you were eaten by those water fish things..

i always killed barny for the extra 17 bullets. and i ALWAYS crowbarred the ****ing scientists after they healed me, dont you guys remember how they treated you in the beginning of the game? ****ing elitist assholes.

I think tommorow...Well, it's 12:00am here, so it is tommorow I will play HL over again. :)

The Scariest moment for me was when at the end of the tram-road tracks level you go down this long ladder. And at the end of it there is a dark room - and in it were some power ups. So I rushed into this dark room to pick them up. Lo and behold, behind me were 2 zombies and I sh!tted my pants when they came behind me. Damn Scary =)

I remember once, on the level where you get on the red tram car (after you launch the rocket) and the tram car looses control and speeds away, derails, and crashes into this water pool area. scared the hell outa me first time it happened. Sometimes I still do it for fun.:cheese:

Me, I never kill scientists and i never kill barnies for their bullets.

I always figured it would make the story make more sense. I mean why would the scientists and security guys help you if you were killing them all the time. So i always kept them alive as much as i could.

Anyway having a barney follow you around saves more ammo than just killing him for his bullets. Seeing as how he has infinire ammo and perfect accuracy. I use him to shoot headcrabs so i don't have to.

Personally, my "moment" in Half-Life was when I played it the first time through, after the accident, just trying to get outside. You come to the top of a stairway, and at the bottom are a scientist and the first soldier you've seen. The scientist, obviously relieved, runs towards him saying "Thank God you're here!" The soldier then simply levels his MP5 and proceeds to empty a clip into the poor bastard. That was a mind-****. I got so confused it took me a second to realize the soldier had started shooting at ME. Holy God, who the hell is on my side? I remember thinking after that one. Half-Life and System Shock 2 are the only games to really put the fear in me. Both are masterpieces in my humble opinion.

Edit: By the way, this thread is reminding me of how true my signature really is.

The dam section was full of atmosphere, the apache, that cannon thing at the far end. Actually, the whole level before that were you had to egt the scientist outta that 'psycho surgury' (as it was called in the art in the manual) I remember being too scared to go first past that, so to see what the blades did i pushed a scientist through first ;(

Also just before that part, when theres that room with the high energy thing that kills all the headcrabs, i remember leading barney in there (didnt know what the button did) and then i pressed it and everything closed....i was like sh.... sorry man...then he gets popped by that beam :(

Another one, the guy whispering about those giant tenticals, i only managed to save him from the fire once but just knowing he never died because of me made me happy lol.

Yep, HL was (and still is) most likely the most immersive game in existance..... the only thing that can ruin the experience is cheats.

I remember back before the game's release, I was given a copy of "Half-Life: Day One" (on a cd labelled HalfLife OEM) by a guy who worked for a computer magazine.

My breath was taken away by the experience... I actually feared for my life. (I didn't know about quicksave, and I didn't even consider cheats)Everything was new and I had no idea what to expect... Never before had a game truly made me jump out of my skin while I was playing it.

Nowadays, people approach these games with far too much confidence.. they aren't worried about dying, and if they find it hard they use cheats. Playing through HL with the fear of death is the only way to play. First time through, it was a sheer adrenaline rush.

I'll tell you that music in the "Tunnels" clip will get me goin.... shit...

That reminds me: HL was more immersive with music turned off... so a quick guide for people wanting to get the most out of HL2 single player:

Set the game up to run smoothly based on your system.

Turn off music.

Don't use cheats.

Set the difficulty to one that you know will be a bit challenging.

Dim the lights, remove all interuptions, set up your sound system to maximum effect (preferably surround if you have it :) ) and play for as long as it takes to finnish the game (probably a couple of days).

Good music makes a more immersive experience to me. For a game anyway.

What difficulty level do/will people be playing at. I played halflife at EASY to be honest, im a pansy when it comes to games. But i think i might try HL2 at whatever average is. Wonder what skill levels there will be.
