I'll definitely start at medium or hard, from past experience, playing a game when it's too easy really spoils it, because when you go back to it at a harder difficulty, you already know what happens and stuff, so the general atmosphere is ruined.

Ill probably do medium too, i did the original on easy and medium and founf that the easy mode was more like first time fps mode, but going through the hard mode is a challenge.

Your very very correct, I would start with a hard level.

However, I'd love it if there were an option like Max Payne, where the enemies get harder as you get better, or they ease off when you start doing badly. That would be excellent.

I always play games on Hard at first. I'llgo down a notch if it's too difficult at first.

I hope HL2 is like HL1 in that you have to do special things to get the console...
otherwise I may end up cheating, and I don't want to darnit!

getting the console to work was a severe pain in the ass for me. but i only cheated after beating the game.
However one game i could not avoid the temptation of cheating through was aliens vs predator 2 the human and pred campaigns, aliens were fun and simple for my animalistic mind.

Half life though i feel is worthy of my noncheatage

Now that I think about it, I'm gona play HL2 on Hard mode. Think about it, HL2 is going to be the most realistic game you've ever played, so wouldn't you want it to feel like you're actually there. Making you screem, "Why wont it die!!" as you run away from a zombie, then imagine what it will be like when you face a strider later on....

good point Cr@zY T, hard mode probably would give the most satisfaction. Most of us are seasoned FPS vets anyway

i've played fps since i was 8 or something but it tottaly depents ont he fps if i use cheats and set the difficulity mode
if i find a good game like hl i use normal mode
but crappy games like red faction II is just fun if you cheat and try to kill enemies in a funny way like dropping a stair on their heads
im gonna play hl 2 on normal

see, HL2 might be the first game I play in hard mode. I usually find "Easy" to be the most realistic in damage dished out, but in HL2, all enemys appear to be alien/armored, so I wouldn't expect 2-3 hit kills anyway. (That ALWAYS bugged me about games, to make it harder, you can take fewer hits, and they take more...I prefer realism...actually...I want CONFIGUREABLE difficulty. ala "Enemy damage multiplier, and player damage multiplier"...hmmm...must e-mail gabe...)
In other words, Easy, Normal, Hard, Custom. Just set it so that you cannot use negative parameters, or 0. so from 1 - 10 being your options. now THAT would rock....
