After experiencing Steam first hand I have no doubt that the people at Valve are nothing but greedy corporate bastards who care nothing about the fans at all. It's all just money money money. They're just like EA. No surprise really - after all the head of Valve used to work for Microsoft, the most evil company/corporation in the history of mankind. I really hope HL2 sucks and that it falls flat. Actually, I'm sure it will. HL wasn't that great anyway. And the games that made HL fun (CS, DOD, etc...) weren't actually the works of Valve, but were stolen and exploited by them. If anything else, I'm certain HL2 will be a buggy piece of crap, considering the buggy piece of crap Steam is - if they can't program a simple piece of software like Steam correctly, what makes everyone think that they can program something as complex as a next generation FPS? HL2, mark my words, shall, fortunately, be the end of Valve - and good riddance I say. Thank God for iD and Doom III.

HL wasn't that great? So I guess the 60+ game of the year awards given to it were jokes then? Gabe Newell has so much money from investing in Microsoft he doesn't even need to continue making games.

Name me a piece of software as revolutionary as Steam that wasn't buggy, I'd like to see you program it and get it done without any bugs. Also when was Steam labelled a simple program? Anyway, luckily this thread will be closed shortly...

I will devour your flesh

Edit - Steam works fine now, they just underestimated its popularity and there werent enough content servers

i guess this guy likes cheaters.

and speaking of cheaters...did cheating decrease sales for valve? i dont think so...people bought the game(s) anyway.

did valve have to create VAC to update servers on cheats? no...no they didn't...yet they spent a lot of time on anti-cheat measures....for no money.

and they didn't "steal" cs and dod. those mod teams were fortunate enough to create something that was widely popular. and for their efforts, valve offered to work with them directly.

it's not like valve has a SWAT team and they just charged into the homes of the CS and DOD teams and stole their computers. those people freely chose to work with/for valve

Yeah, it's almost every modders dream to become part of a software company. Some do it for fun, but a lot of people make mods for experience when they try and get a job.

exactly...what were they gonna do...

valve: we'd like you to become part of our company and legitimize all of your work. now you can all have jobs doing what you were already doing for fun. also, this will be great experience for you if you ever want a job making your own original games.

CS/DoD teams: mmmm....nahhh.

yeah right...of course they said yes

o great, another "microsoft is evil" bandwagoner.
