Not demanding anything, I was just wondering why the Benchmark wasn't made available for us all? Would be nice to test our rigs without having to buy CZ.

Cuz that how Valve is.... gay.

Oh my god, Valve is homesexual! Was it really necessary to use the term "gay"?

So they can get people to buy CZ. So they get money. Businesses like money, you see. :)

No no no.. Gay means happy... homosexual means they like other men... WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? So when you watch Flintstones do you question the opening song?

I guess so, but I reckon you're pretty stupid if you spend 30-40$ on a benchmark level...

I think it was more to do with the fact that the benchmark is uses within CS:S, instead of being a seperate thing. It would be easier to do. They may as well give the Beta to everyone if they have to release the engine to use the benchmark.

Plus there are many different combinations of systems in the CS:S beta so the chances are it will be easy for people to see how their performance will be by referring to what other people got

I also think that they figure that there are so many people are playing CS:S that a wide variety of hardware configurations will be tested. So when they post the results on steampowered.com, you can find the results of someone with a similar rig to see roughly how your system will do.

Not if you have money to burn.
Lets realise that not all of us here have dead end jobs or are poor, or have financial problems.

Heavens above! Buisness are out to make money  never!

:)

Yea I don't understand this also.

It's good marketing to let ppl only play cs:s when they have cs:cz, but they should make the benchmark free imo..it's all preperation for hl2.

Plus, the beta and the benchmark make the CS:CZ people feel special, and I think a lot of them weren't feeling special when they figured out they paid full "new game" price for a game that really wasn't really new or worth full price.

Regardless if you have money or not, spending 30-40$ on a single level, you're going to use for a few hours is for loonies. Either way I thank ye all for the replies.

The reason the benchmark level isn't available for everyone is that it would mean you having to download the Source engine for the sole purpose of a 60 second benchmark.

FFS, if that happened you'd all be slating Valve for making the file so big :|

It's not any different than downloading a demo of Doom3, UT 2004, Far Cry. All the engines are in those demos aswell.
They could pop it out over fileplanet if they didn't want to overload steam.

Actualy if anybody is odd enought to waste $50 on a freakin benchmark could they donate me £30 for a IGN subscription?

both are a waste of money so i see no difference.

yes, it is. Those are all playable demos with levels from the game. this is a ~1 minute flyby benchmark. I think anyone should be able to download it on steam also, but it's nothing like a playable demo.

I suppose you could say that, but a few hunerd megabytes won't be a problem for the majority. I'd gladly download it to test my 'puter, there's a delete button for ya when ye've 'played' the level.

the purpose of the benchmark is for valve to collect info on how the engine runs on different systems.

plenty of people already have the bench with enough different system setups so there is no need for everyone to have it.

the bench is for VALVE, and NOT for us ppl to get boners over seeing how hl2 will run (althought that is a nice bonus)

What will Valve do with it? CZ people have mostly nice rigs while regular CS players have crap for computers. :|

i wouldn't worry too much about the benchmark guys. its nothing special really. it probably isn't even a good prediction of how well your computer will run hl2 in general. the whole benchmark takes place in a cave. there are no open areas and there are no battles with numerous character models in the player's view. everyone who uses the benchmark gets lower fps when they actually play cs:source.

I wanna know if my computer is able to handle this game otherwise why would i wanna buy this game ?

I'd settle for a Bink video, but no way would I buy CS just to get the benchmark. I'd rather save the money and benchmark with the actual game.

To be honest, I would imagine that when HL2 preloads, it might let you have the stress test too.

Or else it's another version.

In Jamaican it Basty Boy (pronounced Bah-tsy boi) :p

We'll all be very, very gay when HL2 has its coming out...

What exactly is that supposed to mean? Are you saying it's intelligent to spend 30 bucks on a damn level just to see if your rig runs properly, but only if you have the money? I don't understand your reasoning. I think it's pretty stupid either way.
I don't understand how they would even think we'd buy CZ, and what with CS-S coming out so soon too. What I really can't believe is the people that actually bought this game. I mean, honestly, How many titles with CS in them that play almost exactly the same do we need?
And no, I'm not saying Source is a lowsy idea. I'd just be able to understand the logic behind it if they only released the two games. CS and CS-S

I got tired of CS about 2 years ago (damn those super good 10 year old with microphones and their squeky voices), so there is absolutly no reason for me to buy CS:CZ for CS:S. If it was HL2: Beta, baby GIMME GIMME GIMME

Yeah, HL2s content will shurly convert us to a gay state of mind.

Im still having fun playing CS:S even after playing same level even though i do wish there would be more choice.
