hl2 crashes certain place.....

Hi,
I need some advice about two things.
#1 If i try to save a game position in hl2 my computer re-boots to windows?

#2 Level one, somewhere upstairs where the guy waves you to go into his apartment? well there,just as i head towards him through a doorway ....RE-BOOT to windows! bloody annoying!

Been through all the problem pages but not sure what to try next.
Demo version worked fine so i thought i would be ok :rolling:

Any decent advice appreciated.

1 your disc might be scratched (unless you're using steam)

2 when it boots to windows does it just go to desktop? 'cuz if it does, you should be able to click a box on your tool bar and open it again

No disc,using steam.
Goes back to the windows page where you select the user.
Happens same place over and over even after trying the worst video mode,no sound ect....

I need help....when ever i start chapter 2 and i go through the hallway and the girl and the combine are fighting it out my screen goes black....i can still see my "HUD" but nothing else.........can any one help me.

Everything seems ok if i set launch things to -nosound -windowed.
Does this throw some light on my previous problem?
I`d prefer to play without being "windowed" if possible!

You say it runs fine in windowed mode..

What are your graphics settings? If they're too high, it might be trying to "save itself" essentially

after trying the worst video mode,no sound ect....

I`ve tried em all m8.makes no odds.
Surely if my machine is only 6 months old (ok only a cheap 512mb job) it should at least get past the minimum requirements?
Actually the test showed i had 497 mb plus 33 elsewhere....but all the rest was fine.
Is this the prob? and how to solve?
