HL2 Deathmatch Cheats

I'm fairly new to HL2-DM but I'm not a beginner. It seems that some of the servers I go into (actually most) have allowed or enabled cheats. I don't really want to use cheats, unless that's the only way to compete. I do have some questions:
- Can you create a server that would stop cheats from being used?
- Can you tell if a server is allowing cheats, before you enter?
- On your own server, can you tell if someone is trying, or is using cheats?
- How do you access cheats in HL2-DM? I am familiar with the console in HL2. Is it similar?
Any help would be appreciated.

:flame:

There are no official cheats in DM, and illicit hacking/cheating is very rare.

Are you sure your opponents were cheating?

I have yet to play on a server that has allowed cheats.

If you use HLSW you can see some settings on the server and cheats is one of them.

Cheats

There's really no way to prove that the guys were cheating, except to say that in a normal gravity game, this one guy just floated up into the sky, and continued shooting us. There has also been times when I've shot someone 3 times with the X-Bow and they've just kept on coming. If there is no way to tell, them I'll just have to assume they're not. But, I still think it's happening.
Thanx for the replies.

I think they're just good players...i've not seen cheats either. What kind to you mean? If you mean they are noclipping around or god mode then i could understand even though thats unlikely.

You can use the gravgun to get places you shouldn't be. It's not cheating, just creativity. :p Example, in dm_runoff:

Wrong, wrong, its not cheating, but it IS exploiting bugs, which can be as annoying as cheating.

The following forms of cheating can exist: Ultra-fast, flight, perfect aim, seeing through walls.

The following forms of cheating can not exist (AFAIK): Damage reduction, god mode, individual gravity settings, infinite ammo.

Keep that in mind, and realise that lag can simulate almost all of the above effects to an observer.

oooh god you don't want to know.

He speaks the truth.

I haven't seen any exploiting or cheating in HL2DM at all (well except for when DM_Runoff was first released)

What cheating is there in dm_runoff? The only really big bug i hate is when they jam the doors. Those bastards!

You can get on top of the big building in the middle. It isn't so much cheating as it is exploiting the mapper's laziness. They should've clipped the roof parts off.

I'll say.

When I'm team combine in runoff, I actually have to guard the door with a gravgun, in order to keep my own team from breaking the map. :frown:

Luckilly, most stop after a stern talking to. And there are actually some games where no-one pulls any shit at all! :O

I am sure I have played against players who have noclip, as they always seem to "predict" when you are coming round a corner. I have also found myself suspecting when I hit omeone with magnum crossbow 3 times, but then they cant be cheating as I've killed them several more times during the same game :|

They weren't cheating. They were just very good players, that's all.
Play me sometime, and I bet you'll even accuse me of cheating. :p

Learn to aim, and no, no one is using noclip, just you are telling yourself to make it seem like you aren't doing that bad.

Its great when you kill someone and all they type is, "BS".

Cracks me up.

I have played on a public server where one guy was using noclip of some kind. I didn't respawn when I died and watched him several times following people with his weapons when they were walking back and forth on the other side of walls etc. and fired at them exactly when they were clear of the wall and in his sights. Like all the walls were bulletproof glass for him and he saw you always. He also hit every bullet with the SMG and Pulse-Rifle that he fired at you. At any distance. You start noticing when you die of the 4 first bullets he fires every time from Pulse-Rifle no matter how far away he is. He wasn't a very good player though. Whenever you came from the side out of his field of vision or from behind he didn't hit you, so he had lots of deaths also. But hardly ever died if he met you head on unless there were plenty of targets and he didn't have time enough to take all out.

Lol, yeah that could be something to do with it! However, I am well above average, and no noob, so I dont take a beating that easily - unless I encounter an exceptionally good player!

I am 95% sure people have the ability to use noclip, although I dont have proof like netrex. My point was that I would be turning a corner, or entering a corridor, on Lockdown, and meet my death with a crossbow which was fired before I had done so. It was obviously fired in timing to meet me before I could react. Now, you might say that it was intended for someone else, but on the occassions it's happened to me I looked around when I was dead and there was no-one else there. You might also say that he could hear my footsteps, but with the distance I was from him, I don't think the game would transmit the sound to him (it would get laggy if it did).

Haha. 95% of people use noclip?

100% wrong :) tbh, it's quite easy to hear players coming round corners, and often people loose off predictive xbow bolts down corridors just in case someone comes down...

If you're up for a game sometime I'll show you what I mean.

Heard of lag prediction before? You were in front of him before "you" were.
What internet connection do you have, and what ping were you getting, and what ping was your killer getting?

Next thing we will no, tau jumping in hldm and op4 is noclip. :|

You'll be surprised at what you can do with a good sound system. I almost never get backstabbed in CS because you can hear them coming from a mile off. And I don't even have surround sound. It might be a bug though, de_port in counterstrike has a bug where the people's shadows appear through a wall. I was sniping people through the wall of the warehouse by watching their shadows before i was kicked for allegedly wallhacking.

PS: How do you get so high up in dm_runoff?

Not what I said, read again....

Umm... I generally get around 100-130, but lag isn't normally a problem for me I dont think.

I am getting the feeling everyone thinks I'm talking ****, but as I said before I am no noob and do know what I'm talkin about ;)

No-one seems to have answered the all-important question - Is it possible to use noclip (or indeed any other cheating methods) in HL2DM?

They way you talk, you sound exactly like a newb. And asking if its possible to use noclip in hl2dm, pretty much puts the nail in the cofin.

Explain please.

I'll assume that you meant "coffin", and that your answer to my question above is "no". :)

I can show you predictive shooting and the like, add me to Xfire - I'm comradebadger

No clip makes you fly about in any direction at a million miles an hour. sv_cheats needs to be set to 1 on the server, which it very rarely is. (i am yet to see this.)

I have never seen a speed hacker or aimbotter though I get called hacker and a c*nt quite often.

I see a lot of complaining about cheats coming from the states. I guess it must happen way more over there than it does in Europe. Or I play this game way too much.

It is quite possible I encountered a highly skilled and/or lucky player, and to be honest I didn't suspect anything till another player started messaging that he was a hacker - maybe that just made me slightly paranoid.
Also, I tend to get frustrated playing Lockdown anyway, I still think the combine balls ruin it. Sometimes you get guys who rack up close to 100 kills with them, like every 5-10 seconds they combine ball someone. Very annoying, and there's little you can do if it's a crowded game, because switching to GG leaves you vulnerable to other players gunning you down.

Players spamming only balls or RPG takes all the fun out if it for me. Specially when it's very good players who know what they're doing and are very effective at it.

It ruins Lockdown. Overwatch is more balanced - RPG hoggers are easily taken out, by good players anyway, particularly in free-for-all deathmatch.

Well it's part of the game, and Valve won't have any intention to these weapons out, so I'd stop whining like a little girl and get used to it if I were you.

Jeez, what's with the aggressive attitudes in here? Vorac1ous, he was merely giving an opinion, not "whining". This is what forums are for, otherwise no-one would use them as they would have no independent content! Peace :dozey:

Keep up the nice attitude. Is that what you say IRL also when people share oppinions with you?

Hit a nerve there I think..

If someone was noclipping, you would know it, because they would be flying through walls and such. And there is no possible way that anyone could be noclipping unless sv_cheats was set to 1 by the server admin, and it's very unlikely you'll find a server that has cheats enabled. (and if you do, just type noclip in the console and you too can noclip!)
PS: How do you get so high up in dm_runoff?
fire the gravgun rapidly :p

Ah, well, for the first time I'm actually 100% sure someone was wallhacking. His name was vision, I think he's Italian, and he was indeed flying through the sky, under the ground etc (in Overwatch). He seemed to prefer hiding under the rubble mound in the corner of the map, just next to the main building. He was even killing us from underground.
I was desperately trying to find out how to record a demo, but it turns out I'd have to restart the game with the console active. I also forgot to note the server, but I was talking to another player, who apparently had it recorded, and told him to post the demo here!

ive played against an invisible player.
and ive also played in a place where everyone was blue, and floating around. i asked what was going on and they said "cheats!" it was really weird.
