HL2 Demo before release?

This probably means a demo after HL2's release, but he does say "is done" and not "is released".

So, what are our chances of coming out before?

Either way, I hope they make the demo like Uplink the HL1 demo, i.e. not just make a demo out of the first level or something, but actually create a whole new level and story.

That could be interpreted as meaning a demo will come before. But i'm pretty sure Valve have said two or three hundred thousands times there will be no demo before release.

Any spokesman (or spokeswoman) will cleverly use words like that to keep their options open in case they do decide to change ther plans. But it is still unlikely that they will release a demo before. They have so many other things to work on such as the source ports, the benchmark, the Binks, etc.

It means that when the game will be finished from dev point of view then they will try to release a public demo without crashing ISP'S world wide :O.

Smarter to not release a demo.

If you played the demo and didnt like it, you wont buy the full game.

If there is no demo, youll more than likly still go out and buy it, but even if your not happy with it most people are inclined to "give it some time" or "i couldnt be bothered returning it."

Good marketing.

i never like demos, because usually they give you a mission from in the middle of the game, and then you can't finish the level, because you're not trained in the game, oh i hate demos! :afro:

Sometimes Demos are great
like when u play a demo and something big gonna happen while u play suddenly the screen fade to black and says " Coming Soon " . That will make u say " OMFG I WANT TEH GAME NOW ! "

Valve have consistently stressed that there will be no demo release before the actual game. There's no reason for this thread to continue.
