I think that if they released the stuff they've shown at E3 and so on as the playable demo for HL2, as a self contained ministory, that would be a great idea.

It would prevent anything from the actual game being stale, and also, it worked for HL1. (The uplink demo, it was like an introduction to HL)

What do you guys think?

Uplink demo was a demo where you had to go to this satellite dish to send a signal to lamba core or something... then the mariens picked up your signal and then you had to go do some other stuff, but then you just got killed by a garg at the end.

but it was good. great stuff.

not to mention too damn short :p
finished it in less than 20 minutes.

took me ages, cause it was the first game i played that you pretty much NEEDED to use the mouse in... (i used kboard only in quake)

ages = a couple of hours (i barely got to use my computer for games back then.. and was always busy with doom 2)

Waitasec... wasn't the uplink demo set AFTER the events of HL1, or is that just me...?

No it wasn't, it was something that could of fitted into the main game, but didn't quite make it.

you can download it as an add-on for half-life if you've never played it.

I played it after i finished half-life and i couldn't believe the stuff that was in the demo but not the main game... door getting cut open was just one.

Are you guys talking about that "Half Life: Day one" thing?

i'll find a link, wait up.

http://www.gamesdomain.com/demos/demo/59.html

that's the full version, for people who don't already have HL installed. There is a smaller one (about 3 megs) that is just an add on... but it's a little buggy (eg. voice conversations don't go right)

i can't believe you guys haven't played Uplink... i played it before i ever got HL, and it amazed me. (it's not as impressive anymore though)

if you take a look here:
http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1512&perpage=15&pagenumber=3

it seems that a lot of the e3 stuff isn't from the actual game. so it would seem that it would make sense to realise it in some form, perhaps A DEMO!!! just like uplink was!

Maybe if i knew what a resolution is, or what opengl is, or things like that, when I played it, i'd enjoy it more :p

And I don't think it fits anywhere in the HL story, cause there was no alien infestation before HL, and HL² comes straight after HL.

The Uplink was what inspired me to buy Half-Life, so yeah, it definitely worked :p

My favourite thing about Uplink was actually the hazard course, and getting to mess around with the scientist and Barneys in the final security room. Muahaha.

I remember playing that... It was my first touch of HL... This was befor I ever really followed game news at all, so this game pretty much came at me outta the blue.

Hmm come to think of it, I don't think I actually started following games til a lil after the christmas I got Ocarina of time lol.
