This may be a basic question, but I was wondering if anyone knew how Steam would deal with a broken connection when downloading a huge file like HL2, especially when you've paid for it. Would you be able to resume without paying again or reregistering again, etc.? Thanks. I'm just a damn noob.

They haven't given any info on that yet so noone really knows, I'm sure once they get to that point they will make it clear. I would guess that they will allow you to download it multiple times or resume downloads if it disconnects but you will need to use the same key.

More then likely it will have a resume feature kind of like DAP (Download Accelerator Plus) I’m sure if you get disconnected it will resume from where it left off.

Yes, Steam already does this. Also, it has been stated that once you have payed for it, you will be able to download it as many times as you want from any location.

The idea of using Steam for any other purpose then game patches and so forth is definaly not a good one. Valve would be stupid if they do so, i don't think that they actually have the necesary bandwith for such anticipade game, otherwise It'd would end up being a failer just like the released of Americas Army Ops.

after my experiences with steam this weekend, i have absolutely no intention of downloading hl2 through steam.
