HL2 EP2 - How do defeat the guardian?

Any ideas? always out of ammo, low health, and sitting in the enclosed area in the middle. No matter what I throw at him (which is limited) nothing seems to do much damage.

You don't, or, I didn't kill him. Did you not hear the vort say "Dont kill the guardian..." and notice how "Sprint" shows up, so you get past him quick...

I was able to take both down using explosive barrels.

It does take a beating, especially on hard!

I didn't realize you didn't have to kill them both... I kind of just sat inside, taking potshots and letting the Vort give me suit power while the regular antlions ran my health down.
