Hello,

When I start Half Life 2 it won't go past the loading page, after about a minute it shuts down and goes to my desktop, without getting an error in the game. I have tried everything I could find on this forum, like trying a different directx version, copying dll files from the bin folder or delete it all together or to disable my usb to fix it but nothing works. I emailed the tech support but I haven't recieved an answer in 4 days now. I am not running any spyware or other programs in the background and my memory and ram is pretty much available, I recently defragmentated my computer as well and HL2 is 100 percent installed.

Does anyone know why this can be. CS source runs perfectly.
I hope someone can help me and other people in my position.

thanks,

Rob

I am having the sam eloading issue and the news update does nothing to help.

Video Card- NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8x

OS- windows 98

Yeah, I think I have the same problem too. I downloaded the game once, it did that and now Im downloading it again. I guess Ill get back to you once these last 15% finish downloading. =/

Just for reference, I got

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8T Neo mobo w/ via chipset
2 SATA 10K RPM WD Hard drives running a RAID 0 array
Radeon 9600XT
1Gb Kingston DDR400

I think I just need to buy a new video card. It should solve this problem. I'm going to try to update the drivers first tho, but I got HL2 working with direct x 7 heh, although it's not playable like that.

Ok, I just redownloaded HL2, and I have a very similar problem. It gets past the loading screen, I get to the main menus, but about 30 seconds after Im in that screen, my monitor goes dead, and the comp freezes. Only way to get it back is to hard reset.

Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem....I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the game only downloads ~800mb, while it says it will need 3gb of hard drive space.

I have no idea what to do. :(
