Hl2 esclusclusive report in italian magazine

Hey, that's the same concept art as in the dutch magazine. Or was it the german one?

Wow. An esclusclusive report!

Hey... well I'll be... that's the same cover art as that other magazine...

Maybe that art is official, then?

Anyone here speak Italian?

From what I could make out with google's translation tools the article is primarily about the premier issue of a new gaming mag. There's no new HL2 info in the online article. Perhaps in the mag, but that's too small to read.

Ive read it (yes i can speak italian , also german) it says practically same as PC mags we have lol nothing special , some stuff about concept art designers, pyshics etc etc etc.

Thanks, but you don't need to - I'm Italian :) I just feared what you wrote was all the info about the game in the magazine.

Did you seriously expect the full article to be published online?

No, it's NOT only a picture. If you click on the picture in the article a window pops up that gives you a short slide show of some of the pages in the magazine. One of those pages is of the HL2 article. You can see words, but they are to small to read.

Yeah, I know... I was referring to the way that you sounded like you were talking about a tiny magazine...

It's the same as PC Gameplay (Dutch)

I've bought it.

The article is 5 pages long and 5 screenshots are completely new, although I don't know if they are the same that have been published on PC Gamer. Anyway I can assure they are different from the latest nine screenies we all know.

There are some Gabe's quotes, although in the passage English -> Italian -> English they may sound slightly different from what he actually said: I'll try to translate them as faithfully as possible.

It seems the journalists have been allowed to play the same three levels of the game, although there are some spoilers I'm not gonna report (unless you PM me).

I'll be back as soon as possible.

The new scans don't look that fantastic but there still pretty cool, one of them appears to have a real big helicopter gunship of some sort in it and another one has some UFO's way off in the distance, you can't really make out what they are.

Oh and there's the obligatory screen shot of Combine fireing at antlions in a prison.

First of all, the article doesn't talk about a generic Summer release, but says "September".

After arriving at Valve's headquarters, the journalists have been given a PC with the game running. They say that small parts of the levels they played have been cut because they were intended to be kept secret at that stage. Gordon finds himself in some European railway station and there are some guys, apparently scientists, who seem to be fully aware of his identity. In the meantime, from a giant screen an aged man proclaims words of obedience and loyalty.
You have no idea of where to go, but some doors are closed while others are guarded by soldiers and you'll finally be able to find your way. Some soldiers are beating citizens, some are guarding retinal scanners, some are marching with aliens. In the background, there's always the old man figure who keeps on repeating the same words.
Gabe says: "Half-Life is a 6 year old title. There are people who have never played it, others have played it but don't remember anything, others are able to play it from memory. So we decided to create an opening sequence in order to cause bewilderment in everybody. It doesn't imply that there won't be links with Half-Life 1 plot - they will just be revealed during the game, especially thanks to Alyx". He adds: "Telling a story in a dynamic way allows to provoke feelings in the player, like a true hate against his enemies. We don't want the player to fight just because we told him who the baddies are; we want him to fight because he's truly convinced of that."
The journalists played the second level, in the cemetery, and a guy named father Gregory was supporting them against various creatures. The difficult part of the stage was that some of them were zombie-headcrab made and soon they found themselves low on ammo. In the end they managed to complete the level using the Gravity Gun - picking up and launching sheet steel pieces and barrels at the beginning, causing some objects to collapse over enemies as they got the hang of it.
Gabe: "While developing Source, we realized how the behavioural physics potential was way beyond our wildest expectations. Sometimes we made a specific use of it, creating puzzles around it, while sometimes its applications came up spontaneously. We don't need to think about the possibility that the player destroys a structure in order to kill the enemy underneath: we just have to define its material in order to allow such an approach."
Finally the journalists play the third level, and there are some spoilers about how to complete it I'm not gonna write about (unless, as I said, you PM me). There's one last quote about the creation of a good AI from Gabe: "The best solution is forestalling the player's moves, trying to cover the maximum number of situations possible. For example: if he approaches a door, the most obvious reaction from the soldiers will be trying to lay an ambush behind it."
The article ends saying that all they saw in the E3 demo came up to their expectations. The game is what you can imagine it to be, and maybe much more.

Just hope my English was okay :)

Great summary indeed.. your English is perfectly understandable, very few errors

Some soldiers are marching with aliens... I wonder what context this is in?

Alien prisoners? Alien workers, being supervised? Alien soldiers?

I wonder if they're the Vortigaunts...

The (translated) article says "...platoons are marching in company of gigantic aliens that look like they stepped out of The War of the Worlds." Striders, it seems.

I forgot to mention: Gabe said that you'll be driving vehicles in the 30% of the full game.

Ah, right...

So the Vortigaunts are nowhere to be seen yet...

30%? Interesting... I wonder how many vehicles there are...

Isn't that a bunch of workers running away from a Strider, or something?

Highly doubt it, that is an OLD screenshot, those guys are probably what the resistance fighters used to look like, in another old screenie, you see some resistance fighters and they look very similar.

Yeh...

I thought they were combine soldiers running WITH the strider :)

Whatever they are, they look to be running away from it to me... I see no weapons being held by any of them, they look frightened, and there's two dead ones (one right next to the Strider)... and the Strider's machinegun is aiming right at them...
