I'm not really good with my computer wording and hardware stuff so what would you suggest I buy since my GeForce 5200 fails to meet the requirements. Aren't those called video cards? And I already updated my drivers from omegadrivers.net so I'm left with buying a new GeForce 7600 or 7800.

Edit: oh lol, I didn't notice I put new video drivers...it's just that I tried so many things to get this stupid game to work that I'm getting confused.

I like my 7800, and I had the 5200 before I got it, LOL that's funny... FX5200 I had for a very long time, years...and the upgrade from the FX5200 to the 7800 GS was absolutely breathtaking, it's definitely worth getting*

Lol, thats funny. It's like I'm one step behind you yet we still have the same annoying issue of this game not starting and running properly.

^^Choose your's and download something that might help.

I might go grab a console and wait for the orange box since it's probably too late for me to keep up with the growing system requirements these days for games. Though I'll still try a 7800 since it's absolutely breathtaking

You can always download the Darwinia Demo and play that instead lol. Btw, that doesn't work on my computer either...

Good luck with the game if you haven't given up yet :p

the program shuts down and the error message appears when you click on the game, once the launching screen is finished the game opens and attempts to load, at the point when the find servers/friends/and quit menu is supposed to pop up is when it crashes. black screen and the message appears.

You have a legal copy, yes?

What are your PC specs?

genuine intel cpu t2400 1.83 GHz not sure if that helps, i dont know what specs you need.

Soooo Ive been playing DOD and CS for years... Matter of fact earlier today i played about an hour of DOD Source now i get the same message>>

Preparing to launch DoD Source bla bla...
HL2.exe failed to launch etc..

I went to safe mode full virus scan, spy ware scan registry deep clean. All my drivers are up to date. Counterstrike and CZ run just fine.. wth?

I made an account just so I could comment on this page. This is basically for anyone who was google crawling looking for a solution. This worked for me.

I had the same problem. Out of no where (Although I did update my 8800 GT today so that might be why...) no HL2.exe games would not run. I searched all over and only tried a few things to no avail and eventually tried this solution. I deleted all of my HL2 games, then re-installed the latest version of DirectX 9 (I run XP Pro). Once done reinstalling HL2 and DX9.0c, I ran HL2 and it then worked. I am just now downloading TF2 to see if it will work (My first error) but I assume it will since they both run hl2.exe and that is what was crashing in the first place. Hope that helps!

Edit: nevermind. This did not fix the problem...but it was worth a shot >____<

I had to wipe my computer because i got a bad virus that took control of my whole system, i wiped it brand spankin new and got a good virus protection program (norton 360) and installed all my drivers up to date (with driver detective)

I never got this error message before, but after I wiped my computer this problem has been occuring

and i try to play Zombie Panic Source if that gives any info

my computer specs are pretty good, have a radeon x1900 and a pentium D on a sony bios

I know VERY VERY little about computers so I suck when it comes to this kinda stuff :borg:

Oh my. Those are "pretty good specs"? Are you perhaps currently living in 2002? Also, "a pentium D on a sony bios" is just made of lol.

Here's a tip - if you know that you have no idea what you're talking about, don't try to talk about it anyway.

Now that that's settled, I would strongly suspect that you have incorrectly installed the drivers, or not installed all of the required correct ones. The fact that you even used something like "driver detective" says it all really. Please get someone that knows about computers to install the correct drivers, in the correct way. Also Norton is a flaming pile of excrement, that often has many conflict issues with other programs. It may be conflicting with your game, or even have prevented your drivers from installing correctly.

Also it occurs to me that you may have downloaded more malicious software, as many harmful programs are disguised as "helpful" looking ones for people that have no clue about computers. Such programs often appear to be registry fixers, driver finders, toolbars, and some even pretend to be anti-virus programs.

Why do you keep coming back, Shasta?
