hl2 expansion

this is just a thought i overheard somewhere, that the Half-Life 2 expansion is maybe the story of Barney Calhoun before and maybe after he met(for the second time) Gordon Freeman...

i would love to play as barney in hl2. and alyx for that matter. but being the pessimestic ass that i am, i dont think itll happen.

would be nice tho
 
There definitely be one maybe two expansions for Half-Life 2. Definitely one expansion devoted to Barney, as Gordon & Alyx were in a slow teleport for one week, and this would give Valve the oppourtunity to fill in some more of the story. Maybe, we will see Adrien Shepard reappear too. It has been stated in other threads that Gordon made it through the Citadel too easily..maybe the Combine was distracted by something else ie Adrien Shepard. Or maybe the Combine has a secondary main base(and another Citadel too) and Adrien is assaulting this second city/Citadel. Just my thoughts, would like to hear what everyone else thinks.
 
I doubt we'll be seeing a shepard expansion..

Other than that an official expansion has been announced which includes dog and alyx, no word on which you play as mind.

It's generally agreed there won't be any expansion featuring Shepard as he is property of Gearbox, not Valve. Gearbox is not producing any more Half Life material. This has been discussed in numerous threads....

So I guess the only expansion we're gonna have is the Barney/Blue Shift 2 Expansion.

Other than that, who know's? Valve can do anything :eek: ...Like a combine expansion. Imagine playing from the other side of the fence. It would definitely fill in ALOT of the backstory. :thumbs:

I seriously douby we will see either a dog/Alyx expansion. I dont think Alyx had enough combat to warrant an expansion. And the Dog expansion, dosn't have enough combat either..and it would play like MechWarrior (Which is a good/bad thing depending on your point of view!). No flame TAT, just good discussion. :cheers:

I think that an expansion where you play a different main character would be an excellent opportunity for valve to make a game in which the player character can talk and interact with other characters in a specific (story helping) way.
Then they could go back to the silent Freeman act for hl3 :cheers:
 
A game where you teamed up with Dog probably wouldn't work IMO. Dog was a 95% scripted character as it was. Would you really want a game that was like that?

Playing as Dog might work a little better, but might lack depth.

I think Barney has the most opportunity for cool stuff. Actually, I'm in favor of any HL2 secondary character having their own expansion because you'd prolly run into Freeman at some point, and I'm in FAVOR of seeing a GODDAMN FREEMAN MODEL! :flame:
 
Playing as Dog would rock, He dosn't talk neither. APC throwing!! Dropship Jumping!! Combine Squishing!! Vortigaunts strapping Airboat gun to your arm and then you shooting Combine!! teaming up with Barney and Resistance and smashing into the Citadel!! a combined Barney/Dog expansion with sections playing as both would rock


The for the last level you play as Barney, and it unlocks replaying the last level (Citadel Breakthrough) as Dog


Go Dog!!
Go Barney!!

Barney is like the little brother I never had.
Dog is like the well trained, do anything for you, Dog I never had.
 
id HELL love to play as dog, you know, being a hell bulky and noisy thing with a big red eye and wires hanging out everywhere. although he does have a built in gravity gun, and is practically indestructible.
 
Playing as Dog would be so awesome because you would essentially only have the gravity gun and your own melee weapons... which would be a GREAT game to revolve around. Plus, he never talks so it would flow so smoothly!

And because of his great strength, it would be like the Super Gravity Gun all over again. Alyx, though.... we never saw her with anything but a pistol... although she can climb up walls and stuff.

Personally, I would think that any expansion would have you playing as a Combine Elite of some sort... I mean, Opposing Force was all about playing the opposite role. Although I would LOVE a game playing as a Vortigaunt... like you are always getting info from the Vortigaunt Network? If you die in one part, you are reborn as another Vortigaunt... It could be cool.
 
a great opposite role would be playing as a.... DRUMROLL....a barnicle, i mean cmon itd be so action packed.
 
Heh... play as a Headcrab. You start off in Gonarch's lair, having to find food wrestling with all of the other headcrabs, avoiding bullsquids and whatnot... finally finding your way to a portal and coming to Earth. Then, you make your way to the Citadel and stow away aboard a rocket and fly to Ravenholm. From there, you have to find and zombify Father Grigori. Along the way, you can try and zombify other people, gaining a decent attack, but you lose your sense of stealth and can't escape until your host body is killed. At the end, you zombify Father Grigori. You live the good life, being the King of Zombies for a few days, but in the end there is no escape from the Final Boss- Gordon Freeman. The game ends when you are crowbar'd to death.

You know... I started this post COMPLETLY in jest and sarcasm, but now I think that it would actually make a kickass mod!

You should finish the mod as Gonarch. Grigory would just be a cool mid-chapter.
 
nah an expansion needs more guns not less so i reckon u can count on it not being dog.
 
Ohh, that'd be awesome to play as one of the other characters...although it'd be rather surreal if Gordon showed up somewhere. O_o

If there was an expansion pack with Barney, maybe it'll explain his fear of cats. ;)

He is programmed with AI, how do you think he comes up with letting Gordon into the Citadel? Alyx didn't tell him to, your arrival is a complete suprise to her.

Plus;

Dog would make the best expansion ever, it could start in Black Mesa East playing with Gordon, escaping from Black Mesa, trekking through the wastelands smashing Combine, eventually you make your way to the Wasteland Depot and Alyx leaves for Nova Prospekt, you go to a Resistance camp, head out and attack an Antlion King which makes for a cool mini Boss, whooping a huge Kings arse, then a Vortigaunt gets you Antlion King spores which you can release from your body, giving you a third weapon to control Guards with, then you see an explosion and learn it to be Nova Prospekt, the resistance piles into trucks and bounds off for City 17, you are attacked a Gunship which you take down by jumping off of a ledge onto it and smashing it into the beach. When your in C17 you meet up with some Vortigaunts who strap a Helicopter Gun to your arm, giving you a fourth weapon.
Meet up with Barney and Alyx, help Alyx into the Citadel. Fight loads of Combine, take down a Strider, jump on a Dropship, carried away to an Overwatch base, smash down the walls and kill all inside. Eventually after letting Gordon into the Citadel a Gargantua bursts out of the Citadel gates and starts ripping shit apart, cue melee boss fight, eventually the Garg lay defeated and you look up and see....THE CITADEL EXPLODING, a large chunk of Citadel flys towards you and the hands are raised ready to catch it.....fade to black


Did Dog survive? who knows?
 
Personally, i think HL3/HL2 expantion should be gordon.

And alyx and barney in seperate (like blue shirt or OP)
 
playing as combin would be cool but it would bea bit poo cos think about it in ref to the HL2 story you would have to be dropshipped everywhere where you fight with gordon and you would always die as gordon always gets away, so where the story in that it would have to be completly seperate like just based in city 17

Tho gordon could be like the gman and your a ELITE combine of the uber kind lie a hitman hunting gordon but he always gets away ?
 
Well, you cluld play as a combine during the 10 years (or whatever) in wich gordon was away. Just an idea.

That's not generally agreed actually. I think that's actually the minority opinion.
 
or fight where Gordon is not? Gordon rarely fought against Metrocops so they could be deployed somewhere else. Personally I think expansions with Barney, Alyx, Dog, and a Metrocop all have merit.
 
i think it would have adrien in the next expansion. And about the combine being distracted by adrien could be true as he (i think ) has kicked there bot bots before ( Alien X before Zen combine)
 
Valve said they had a lot of requests for Shepard's return, never said they were going to bring him back though. Then again, they never siad they wouldnt........
 
I think it would be cool to play as the combine!
You could act like a nazi and beat people up on the street and the story would switch to finding freeman

Hi guys, this is my first post. :)
I don't understand why everyone is so anti-Shepard... I mean honestly, he had a pretty cool role as the righteous marine in OP4, and there's huge potential for him to be "employed" by G-Man. G-Man could use him as a soldier before the return of Gordon in HL2, a type of silent bodyguard for Gordon in HL2, or even as some type of renegade fighter after the explosion at the Citadel. And since this idea of contracts seems to be a hot issue these days, who's to say that G-Man isn't going to sell his contract to Breen? In which case, his role in an expansion could be as either some type of rebel hunter or even as a character who is turned into a Combine soldier in order to stress the dehumanizing aspects of the Combine organization. OR, even better in my opinion, would be that he is sold to Breen by G-Man, and as the Combine soldiers are attempting to chnage him into a Stalker he escapes, has to flee from the Citadel, and eventually joins up with the resistance where he fights against the Combine forces. There we go, that's the PERFECT story for OP42! Just remember you heard it here first. :)
Oh, and btw, Gearbox could easily give the rights to Valve for Shepard, as long as they were promised some royalties from the sales. :) Damn benefactors... lol. :D
