HL2 Feb 24th?

According to a source at ATI leaked the release date of HL2 as the 24th feb 2004, this came about as ATI wanted to pin down valve for the date so they know when they can package there high end cards with the game. Green-Pilgrim got the info from SKY'S Gamesville programmer and there not normally wrong with there PC news.

It better damn be :) I've already prepaid seventy bucks on this game, I want it ASAP! Besides, the leak at least sounds genuine...
 
This soon to release, and no more hype in magazines, or any new movies or pics? No way. Sorry guys, I'd love it to be true, but no way.
 
Who says Valve needs to release vids or screenshots close to the release?
 
Nobody, but it wouldn't make much sense to just spring the game on us. At the very least, magazines would already be giving the game alot of pre-release hype. It's possible I guess that Valve could just slip it out without building the hype up some more but it doesn't seem likely. Of course, that's not to say I'd absolutely love to be proven wrong on this. and have the game out next month. But I'm just being realistic about it, I went through all the ups and downs of the first delay and am not gonna go through that anticipation/disappointment again. I'll basically believe it's out when I'm holding it in my hands :)
 
you have to be a little skeptical about a random forum member talking about a leak from ati giving up the release date and it being reported in a small paragraph on some site. ill be realistic and say its fake. come on, thats just a little too good to be true.
 
How many times have we heard about these "inside sources" knowing something? And how many times have they been wrong?

I say no way, and am betting sept 30 this year.
 
After we get the SDK, we'll get HL2 a month or so later. I remember reading that somewhere.
 
I'll believe it when I see it... no point in getting my hopes up. Would be nice though.

But then again, ATi have leaked stuff in the past :p
 
Don't think it's true, it won't be released prior to CZ I think. Even if it's not for the sales, CZ can be a nice benchmark to see for Valve if Steam could handle a release of a game. It would be a sucky date for me too, a release during my exams would suck balls. :p
 
I think CZ is vapor... This DOES sound kinda credible and MIGHT be true but in very sceptisc.

My tarantula just told me the real release date!! It tapped on its glass tank in such a way as to mimic morse code!! CLEARLY IT SHARES A TELEPATHIC LINK WITH GABE!! OMG OMG OMG!!

I don't trust a word anyone says anymore. People can pull any date out of their ar- uh, armpit and half the community will take it at face value. Here's my estimate: the game known as Half-Life 2 will come out early this year... or it won't. TEH SPIDOR TOLD MEH SO!!

Meh, wouldn't sniff at a genuine Feb release o' course, no matter how unlikely it seems.
 
I'm in the "I doubt it" crew also....but I think the response this is getting is exactly why valve may be quiet right up until the very end before the release. No matter who says what or when, no one is going to believe it and everyone will expect it to be wrong. And if valve themselves say something, most people are going to shrug and say, "Yeah right...just like sept 30th."

But here's some optimism: EVENTUALLY one of these rumors is going to be true because eventually the game WILL come out. So....which rumor will turn out to be true?hmmmmmm

That's a valid point- since the September 30th fiasco no one is going to believe half of what Valve say (and anything of what Doug Lombardi says). That said, I'd be more likely to believe an offical statement than numerous websites which I'd never heard of. Just not completely.
 
I got an email from IGN Gamestore that's it's coming in July so uh... :D "7/1/04"

Bullshit. You're telling me if Valve came out tomarrow with an official statement like: "Alright guys, we're just finishing up on play testing now. Half-Life 2 will go gold late March with the SDK about three weeks before that." That you wouldn't believe it? I'm sick of people dissing Valve. Awwww.... they didn't make their first release.... here's a hug. Seriously, people need to get over it. Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 were delayed over a year each if I remember correctly. Same with Half-Life. Maybe something happened on the inside that we don't know about, maybe nothing happened. We don't know, but there is a reason the game was delayed.

that is EXACTLY what happened in September, so no I doubt anyone would.
btw not believing Valve, and supporting valve are two completely different things my friend.

oh and valve have never met ANY release date, its not just september (although that was a big one)
stop taking people's opinions so personally its just a game, and people tend to be pessimistic so that they can be surprised, rather than let down continualy.
 
If HL2 will be released feb 24th what about the SDK? Gabe mentioned several times that the SDK will be released sooner than the game.

If this date is true why isn't the SDK been released?
 
If i get to use the SDK, i wouldn't mind if HL2 isn't out for some time, because i would be busy familiarizing myself with the tools and seeing its capabilities

ATI are going to ship Graphic cards with the game??? What graphic card!? Wasn't it supposed to be the 9800xt? that is already released with out the game, because it was delayed?

im open minded, sounds solid if ATI are packing the game with their cards then.. but me not getting hopes up either, but im not saying its not possible.:p
 
This is complete BS, unless the SDK is released very very soon I would say this rumour started with the guy who posted it.
 
but what Card is it that ATI are releasing!!?!?!?!?!?

I mean i thought they was going to release it with Radeon 9800XT But that was out like december ! lol.
 
no no no,, its the same card (ATI 9800's) being release as a package with HL2 the game :p

so you can buy them both together as one package. :imu: , :eek: excellent , the more choices they give us the more people they appeal to the more we buy whatever package we like, ... they sure know how to sell their product to the max ;)

Heh, that card packaging is quite bizarre to say the least . I'm sceptical on the release being that close, simply because neither the SDK or CS:CZ have shipped. I don't think that Valve could profitably ship CS:CZ after HL², unless they updated the engine to Source as well.

No, that's a differant situation. That was the first targeted release date, they were guessing when they stated that. But after actually developing more, they would have a better idea. Do you understand that?
